It's alive!
So after 6 months of dormancy my wife went down and woke up my 84 gslse. Not one bit of smoke came out of it when it first started. Had them take it out and it ran great. Is this normal? I was expecting some oil to burn off. It's like it didn't even know it was in the garage for 6 months.

Friend of mine murdered his 79 12a and seems to think it'd beyond repair. Didn't run it for months and then ran into with no oil because he didn't check hid dipstick. Needless to say it didn't last long. It seems the 12a motors weren't as tough as the 13b from the beginning but I could be wrong.

I premix 12a's and drive the **** out of them and never worry about a thing. They seem to be the most reliable when you beat them everyday.

I think the 12a's are just as tough, but the real 2+2=5 effect that the GSLSE 13b has for longevity was having both 3mm apex seals AND proper oil injection. 12a's oil metering dribble into the carb wasnt nearly as effective at lubrication as the "new" oil injector system used on 84 up 13b's.

just noticed your in ohio. I live in PA near the ohio border. I don't think i've ever posted an image of my car but it's fairly clean for a car that's been in PA it's entire life.
i've since removed the wing and stickers. I bought it with the body kit but I could never figure out where it came from. And yes I know it needs a paint job and a few cracks repaired. It scrapes in PA coming off even my driveway but has never been lowered. it's just such a hilly area.
on another note I think my oil lines are starting to crack. I will pop the hood after running for a while and notice a few drips of oil in the engine bay near them. I thought about going premix or replacing the lines.

Lol I bought a nikki carb just recently from Butler PA...
My car has been in the northeast its entire life too!
Mine only had 2 places where it started to think about rusting. Luckily I caught them before I painted it. Bottoms of both doors, and the drivers side inner storage bin. Otherwise its in great shape.

13b's have their own life expectancy, as mine just stopped developing enough compression with the starter to leave me stranded this past weekend @ 220k miles. The engine will be replaced with a 135k mi core which I bought from a member here over 10 years ago, and the spare engine has sat on a stand for that long with me spinning it 1 full revolution every few weeks for the whole time to exercise the seals. It still spins easily by hand with solid and hard 'pops' as the ports open and close.
Will have to wait for cooler weather to install it, but at least it'll be back on the road for another ~80k miles or so - getting me up to 300k miles on the body/chassis. These cars and engines will last a long time if you take good care of them; routine oil changes and fluids.
My 12a (80LS) went 220k mi as well, so maybe I'm onto something here...

220k miles is a hell of a run. I ran my car hard but I didn't even realize until I looked at the odometer that it was less than 300 miles last year. To the store 2 miles each way redlining and enjoying the curvy roads. hopefully I won't have to replace my engine for a long time.

In PA, theres actually a business dedicated to salvaging old RX7's and doing all the related engine/chassis work (to include porting). Google Rhineharts Performance, you'll instantly find like 50 things you need to buy on their inventory page haha.
