IRS experts?

I need tax help.

No seriously. I have available to me several scrap FC's.

I already have the front subframe, rack, steering column, etc ready to go in. Dependant on if it's going to someone else or not, an S5 N/A engine. (For the rotors only), and various other FC bits...

I remember readong somewhere that the FB test mule was used to test the FC suspension.

Since the front subframe bolts up, I was thinking that the rear shouldn't be TOO hard to bolt in, being that the "frame rails" (Yes. I know unibody doesn't have frame rails, hence the quotes.) would be the same width...

I might experiment with that. However, people have said that the FC rear suspension is of a shitty design. (I'd be eliminating the passive steering)...

What is it that makes Trailing link design bad over perhaps 4 link. What do they use on the Miata?

Or perhaps I should just stick with the solid axle with a panhard and three link...

I dunno. Just playing with what I got in the back yard.

The book showing the development of the 2nd gen shows the a few first gen mules with IRS. I don't/wouldn't think that it would be close though. I think one of the issues with doing an IRS in a FB is that you may have to think outside of the box, ie: outside of the mazda parts bin. If you're not runing much power, say <300hp, I think I would look into a subaru (leagacy, impreza) IRS, maybe even a datsun 510 (with a nissan diff, you would have many more ratios to choose from too). If I thought a IRS would make *that much* of a differance, I'd most likly try to fab something up (and I'm sure it would alread be a kit for it, though with that logic a R&P kit would have been made years ago), but *I* don't think it would make much of a differance in out right handeling, but ride comfort would(could) be greatly improved with an IRS.

Damn, I recently gave away a rear end from a 280ZX (disc brakes to). Wonder if that could have been worked into something along these lines? Dang it, I wonder if she still has it? lol.

how about a ford 8.8 out of the '03/'04 SVT 'Stang? it's IRS and capable of holding stupid amounts of power (the last SVT was extremely under rated at 390/390. MM & FF tested parts, and with a x-pipe, cat back, and cold air intake it threw down 400/480 at the rear wheels).

Also there's the ford 8" which is good for that much power.

The 280 rear end is ideal... they are very well designed for drifting and such. I was recommending that to autopaul for the irs design.

I want it to go in without too much fabrication and welding to my frame...

I don't have the resources for dead on accurate fabrication of something as sensitive as suspension.
