interior lights buzzing (no working solutions in search)

Well here is my dilema:

Hazard lights work, every fuse is good, no interior lights whatsoever work and there is an annoying buzz as soon as I turn the key on if the hazard fuse is in place.

There is also no radio in the car (just wires for the radio). There is no connected dome light either, just the wires for it, no bulb. Also the clock does not retain memory and when I open the car's door the numbers from the clock disappear...

That's the kind of problem that you just have to get out the wiring diagram pick the simplest circuit of what does not work and trace it back.

Start with any shared grounds.

Good luck!!

Sounds like the infamous "screeching oscillator" to me, do a search, or just go out by your driver's side headlight and unplug some things while its screeching, it should stop. The neat thing about this repair (recommended by Carl, as I recall) is that when you plug the oscillator back in, the sound doesn't come back, at least that's what happened to me.

As usual, Carl's computer-like memory proves to be correct, it was Phil and Jeryl who solved the puzzle, not Carl (he just supplied substantial moral support). With MY brain failing, I had to use my computer to find the thread.

Turns out to be one of the first I posted, the screech was driving me crazy and I was desperate.

PrxRX7, you will see in the post my symptoms were very similar to yours, a screeching/buzzing sound that goes on whenever you turn the key and goes off when you pull the radio/hazards fuse.

Here's a quote from several weeks into the post:

"Screech Fixed!! It was the oscillator. I unhooked the connector up by the left headlight and it stopped. Then I hooked it back up and it didn't start screeching again. Now everything works again and it didn't cost anything! Thanks to Phil and Jeryj I have my radio and my sanity back!"

thanks!

yea I didn't find that post in my searches, but I Was looking for buzz and interior lights...

Thanks for the help, I am hoping this helps! I will post if it did.

Also with my hazard fuse in place, the clock is always on...I don't think that is right...(no radio might contribute?).

Clock resets when door is open only when the hazard fuse is out, yay.

Man bein a 1st gen/carburated newbie is givin me a run for my money so far

Thankfully I am not a newbie with my '89 Turbo II anymore...

OK so here is whats going on so far...

I pulled out and put back in the fuse for the oscillator thingy.

I still have the buzz (door/seatbelt buzzer) which finally turns off with the door closed and the seatbelt light off.

I have power to my cigarette lighter, glove box light works, but interior lights still no worky, dome light doenst work and map light doesnt work.

I took apart the dimmer switch, definitly buggered, so I am going hunting for a replacement. That should get me a little further.

Unplug the oscillator, it's a black plastic electrical connection that's located up by the left (driver's side) headlight. Then all the fuse thingy things will work and the buzz/screech will go away.

If you are lucky, when you plug it back in, the noise will still be gone, although this happens only to the most worthy of rotor heads.

Your interior lights and radio (if you had one) don't work because you took out the oscillator fuse thingy. Taking out the oscillator fuse thingy got rid of the noise and turns off your radio, if you had one, but it does not fix the problem (I drove my GSL for a couple months with the radio fuse thingy pulled before really dealing with my serious need for a radio, solved in about five minutes using Phil and Jeryl's oscillator directions).

Unplug the oscillator (and don't ask me why or what it does).
