Unfortunatly I cant claim any times but when my car is ready, at 1900lbs and 250 rwhp it should scoot down the strip pretty good? rx7gslse can you testify to this?

By the way, not turboed or NOSed.

I can testify that it's light... It would probably move faster if you put an engine in it.

Each carb and application requires a different fuel pressure. It just so happens that my particular beat up Nikki likes 3.5 psi fuel pressure. It's also got the rear float set way too high and I noticed that the booster dogleg is kinked off to one side on the "rear" primary venturi. All this can't help, but it'll have to wait a little longer whilst I get the garage set up and then fix the top on my '68 vertBird, so I've got two reliable daily drivers...

Start a new thread and get it on the dyno....here we go again...let me guess, it's got the factory-stock street ports, too? Hmmmm? Saint's alive, will they never stop??

If it's stock and set up right, unlike mine, it'd probably be happiest at 4 psi, but I'm guessing here. You'll only know by running back-to-back runs at the different psi's and feeling for the stumble at high RPM....just don't blow the engine while you're trying all this...

blown engine would suck. mine dies off on highend as it is. midrange has kick but the highend is lacking until 3rd gear. it also seems to take a minute to kick in. hell i'll start a new thread.

I've got mine set at about 1.5psi and it loves it

Won't know if that's optimal until I can get to the track and tune it...

couldn't it detonate and go bye bye, or is your pump just flow enough that you aren't worried?

That top speed is AFTER i re-set the reg... before it wouldn't go any higher than about 70 It has LOTS more power now. I think the brakes and/or tires are holding me back... when I had the race rubber on the car seemed to have more power on the highway. I think the problem is in the secondary circuits, since it has great power on the primaries. Needs tuning still, but for right now, it runs and drives great! (I don't speed anyway.... too paranoid of losing my license) Also thinking the fuel pump isn't big enough, and the fuel filter is 'bout due for a replacement. Doesn't FEEL like fuel starvation though...

Anyway on the previous engine, when running through the muffler it also liked super-low pressure.

I honestly don't think you can kill an N/A from detonation. For one thing, it is VERY hard to get one to detonate. I managed to do it by putting the distributor in wrong, so that the trailing plugs fired on the wrong rotor. Detonation at anything over 1/3rd throttle. Detonated a LOT of times (at least 50, probably over 100) before I tracked the problem down. Another time I was experimenting with a different carb and halfway home the fuel passages plugged solid with rust. It fuel-starved so badly that at WOT the car wouldn't go over 30 or so MPH, missing very badly, but it never detonated.

i thought that too but my camry had bad detonation. still not sure what caused it. everyone just keeps telling me to be careful not to lean out at higher rpm's cause i could detonate.

nah, I think he's going for a nice big bridge port or PP job... Nice brand new 13b 4 port side housings just waiting..

It is just a gutted frame race car afterall..

1st7heaven, you should post some pictures of the cars you used to work with, like the ones in your garage, as well as some details about the build up process of your car. I'm sure people would be interested.

Mar3: If you guys are heading out to Ennis some Friday night, let me know and I'll try to meet up with you and see how slow mine is.

Whenever the TMS breaks down and puts in the quarter-mile track they promised, we won't need to go to Ennis. All the action this time was at Kennedale, right in your backyard, practically. Unfortunately, it's only an 1/8th mile track...I'll PM you on the next Sunday adventure so you can decide if you want to join. Lots of females out there, too...

I guess I should mention that the females are primarily high-schoolers, just in case that's an issue... The track is off Business 287 after you exit 820 right at the south nexus where Arlington's I20 runs into FTW's Loop 820..lot closer than anything else right now...

ps. if the car has a rumble or big tip, the females start gathering...pissed off some buddies when a tiny little beauty started following me around wanting to race and get some advice about her newly acquired, older Stealth...gotta remember, I'm an old man, now! All the young dawgs had to sit back and wish...

Nobody checked my DL when I pulled up. They must assume that if you drove there, you're legal. I had to sign a form stating I had no legal rights if I died and I had to fill out a green card (har,har...get it? I'm hispanic... )that was the "tech card." They didn't look at the car or under the hood at all. Just pulled up to the staging lane that you see in the pictures, had me sign the back of the tech card and away we go...race cars aren't legal for the street, so they don't care about the car, it's the driver and how fast that car can get that worries them...
As far as age goes, we covered alladat here...

that ol' search engine button gave me this......me so old!!!

I have no idea, I haven't had it to the track yet. On the one hand, it has hard old gas-station tires on it so traction will be nonexistent. On the other hand it has a limited-slip, and the clutch slips so I can launch it at redline We'll see, probably in a month or so.

I'd take the set of tires you're going to race with in the back of a buddy's car or truck and run those hard donuts first. Don't do a burn-out and lay down a smokey all the way down the track like the old slingshots used to do before progressive clutches. And then tell all the kids in the stand it's kickin' out 666 HP at the rear wheels and you can't hook it up!

The clutch will slip first, it usually does in the rain

Speakin' of rain, the interesting tale of the 1stgen just ended today. It turns out that on rain slick roads, 40 mph RX-7's are stopped pretty good by 10 mph Cadillacs...and so another rex fades into the mists of history.....................

ps. I'm OK, but that really is irrelevant....
