Intake Manifold Removal??

Ok so im tearing down my current motor and the intake manifold has got me puzzled..

As far as I could tell there are 6 bolts. one for each corner and then 2 allen wrench plug like screws in the middle. I have taken them all out and the manifold will NOT budge but i cannot find anymore bolts that are holding it on. I've hit it with the back part of an hatchet and it will not move. How do these things come off?

I remember a member had a similar proble awhile back. Just use a rubber mallet and some force and it should come off. There are two drain holes that are mistaken for the nuts holding it on as well. Make sure you didn't just take out the drain plugs. D'oh! X]

Wait! Have you looked and compared your gasket to the one's you've removed? They should all be 12 mm, I think it's 14 mm for the exhaust manifold nuts. The hammer won't do any good since the manifold is sitting on two studs. Use a flat screwdriver on a corner on the steel and pry.

As above, you've still missed two fixings! Last guy did same, hit the manifold and broke it. Look right under the manifold.

There are two more nuts under the manifold. They are only about 2 inches off of the manifold centerline. Look directly under the carburetor.

If you look here, you will see where the 6 bolts/nuts are suppose to be. 2 @ both ends, then 2 more where the coolant is suppose to be. BTW... if you haven't drained your system it will come pucking out of there.

Those allen plugs should not have been removed. I don't think anyone has told you that yet. Good luck resealing them.

they should be super easy to find if the carb is off and as Jeff said the allen plugs were not supposed to come out. There are 2 nuts under there that are the same size as the bolts (12mm i think)

Yes, 12mm. If you used a 14mm socket and removed a nut or two, you ought to put them back on because the exhaust manifold doesn't need to come off in order to remove the intake manifold.

Some people use aftermarket 13mm nuts and bolts on the intake because they lost the stock ones or whatever, so keep in mind that it is possible that 13mm may be present.

Study the picture of the intake gasket above. Memorize the position of the six small holes. These are where to concentrate your search for 12mm nuts and bolts.

It's my hope people will search next time they encounter a stubborn manifold. Maybe this thread and the other one will help them.
