insurance question

greetings,

2004 is here and my car is now exempt from crummy smog regulations. but how about insurance benefits? anything good come from having the insurance company register my car as a classic?

thanks,

Actually, 74 should be smog free for sure (so I can reg my 74 REPU next week without smog) and perhaps 75, since they go by model year.

yea.. if i remeber correctly it used to go up every year so by now we would be in 76 and earlyer. but they stoped that at 73.

but they accept any car that was built after 73/74 if there the exacly the same as the pre 73 car.

example. if it were say pre 82, an 83 rx7 would also be exempt beause its exactly the same as the 81 and 82 but the 84 would not due to the introduction of the gsl-se..

atleast thats how think it goes i dont remeber all of it.

The best insurance deduction is to ALWAYS say you're married.

I'm not, but it cut my rates in half. Literally.

The only problem I've heard of when registering as a classic is that you usually have mileage restrictions. So theoreticaly you could only drive a few hundred or thousand miles a year.

sometimes they also restrict when you dirve the car, not at night , not on the highway unless you can prove your going to a car show or something..... nothing much they can do to enforce this (except the mileage maybe) but if you get into an accident at night on the highway and there are no car shows near by you pretty much don't have insurance! they are all different though so you'd have to check around for the different types of 'classic' policies

greetings,

thanks for advice. i think i'll check w/my company to see what deals exist.

i'm here in canada/quebec. no laws for smog in this province but eventually i'll be moving back to ontario where 20 years gets you an exemption.

regards,
