NC Insurance Question

Maybe this goes more in the "general" section, but I was thinking that besides the real old school stuff, our first gen are would be the place to pose the question.

Currently, I have my RX-7 insured with everything else in the family fleet - a late model Accord and a Chevy Colorado. The Mazda was just tacked on to the plan when I bought it a couple of years ago. But, given that the car is approaching it's 30th birthday (It's an '85 model), I thought I should perhaps see if there is a better option.

So, do any of you guys insure your RX-7 separately with companies such as Hagerty? Thoughts? Experiences? Should I just let sleeping dogs lie?

thanks for your input!

My father and I have used hagarty insurance on multiple vehicles.

To us, its worth it, $300-400 a year for a generous full coverage insurance policy. However, there are restrictions, you must have another car for a daily driver, there are limits on how many miles you can drive a year (2500 I think). We also have to occasionally provide one "recent" exterior, interior, and engine picture. Also I think there is a requirement of a shelter for the car, but i,'m not really sure.

We don't drive our cars too much, heck I drive less than 12000 miles a year anyway, so it works ot great.

My insurance company is in bed with hagarty so it was easy for me, I just got with my local agent and they hooked me up.

I say go for it, call your insurance company and ask about collector car insurance. Seriously doesn't hurt to ask.

Just fyi 1. Hargarty will insure an fb (I know this lol) 2. As far as the milage limit goes, I've never had any odometer ****'s show up at my house, just sayin.3 we've used hagarty for 10+ years.

I pay $220/year
full coverage up to my appraised value of 15,000
must have a registered and insured daily driver
no mileage restrictions for me at all, it just cannot be a daily commuter

hagarty was too restrictive for my liking

My 40,000 mile 83. I keep comprehensive on it at all times. Only put full coverage on it when I drive it, if I drive it. Only drove it 158 miles in 2 years

I have my RX-7 insured on our normal policy with the DDs and my truck. The truck and RX-7 are insured as weekend/pleasure vehicles and cost almost nothing to insure w/ collision and comp. I think the RX-7 is like $25/mo.

Hagarty is pretty cheap if you are low mileage driver. That's what I have. About $250 a year for full coverage up to stated value of $10,000
Mercury (which I have daily driver insured with) wouldn't cover it for replacement value and referred me to Hagarty

Which insurance are you with? I currently have Hagerty with a $10k states value for a little under $300 a year. As others have said, there is a mileage restriction which I'll never exceed myself though.

In NJ I use American Classic. Was $85 last year.
This year they raised the minimum yearly amount to $100. So I'm @ $100.90 yearly w/ $7000 agreed value - 5000 yearly miles.

Just to follow up, I switched to Haggerty. $10k agreed value. So far, it seems like the right move. The car is not my daily driver - and Haggerty requires that you have some other primary vehicle that is insured by someone else. Anyway, I'm paying a lot less, and should something happen, I think I now have better coverage. I appreciate everyone's input.

Hagerty is good, but the premium for towing service is a joke.

My towing service is covered through my AAA membership associated with my other cars. 100 mile tow x 5 per year. Covers any vehicle as long as I am there. Had my dads car towed to my house for repair, had an -se shell towed to my house for parts, etc.

Thanks for the tip. I went with State farm and I paid $240/yr for my JDM 78. I took the car in for pics yesterday and when she saw the odometer she said "wow this car has low miles" 17,362km = 10,787miles so thats what she put on the paper work
