Instrument Lighting
Ok, so the other day I pulled out the gauge cluster on my '80. I tried to cheat and not remove the wheel, wasn't going to happen...luckily I have a steering wheel puller, and I needed it too ! I swapped in a spare gauge cluster from (I think a '79) so I could get a KM/H readout, and because the old bouncy speedo was driving me nuts.
But now I think I'm going to frankenstein the two dashes. I prefer the detail in my tach and clock to that of the '79...79 only has markings at every 500 and 1000 RPM. I also wanted to change the backlighting on the instrument panel from green to blue. (I think somebody was selling these at one point) Anywho, I figured I could do it myself, but to my surprise when I pulled it apart the plastic surrounding the instrument lights is blue. WTF ! Why is my lighting green? And does anyone know how to make it blue...thanks in advance, George

i could take my gauge cluster in and out without removing the steering wheel.. on both my 79 and 80...
(not that that has anything to do with your question.. but what the hell)

filament bulbs tend to give off a yellow light. Shine yellow through a weak blue tint and you get green.
To make it blue, try getting ahold of some lighting gels or (irreversibly, if you happen to get it wrong) buy some translucent blue Testor's model paint (the kind you're supposed to paint over an aluminum colour for a deep, rich metallic)

I know this has been asked before, but the search feature is down.
In my 85, how the hell do I get the guage cluster out of there?
I feel like if I wrestle with it anymore, I'll break it or at least snap somthing.
