mariah bodykits
is there any reason why the SCCA ITS/ITA front air damn from mariah motorsports is listed as only fitting the 81-85 rx7. is there anyway that i could get it on my 79. in my opinion that the most tasteful looking front airdamn for the first gen, and id hate to be excluded from it. besides that, its pretty affordable.
I answered it in your other post, but I believe that the 81-85 body kit will fit a 79-80. Mariah just says somewhere that you need to swap over to the 81-85 driving lights, as the air dam is made to fit those lights.

so i would have to get the 81-85 bumper in order to use that airdam?? i like the driving light theory better. what if i just chose not to use drivin lights at all?? i want as much air to flow to the fmic as possible.

You can't use that airdam. I checked the Mariah site, and the one you talk about (SCCA-legal) mounts underneath the stock bumper. So it will only fit with a 81-85 bumper. The body kits Mariah sell, come with a one piece nose (bumper/airdam in one molding) and can be used on all 1st gens, using later style drivinglights (the ones on the corners that are, they are also blinkers). But the airdam is a piece going under the stock bumper, and so you will need that one first. I have a brand new one (US-type) complete with shocks and everything, but shipping that one to you would be slightly expensive...
Anyway, you WILL need one if you choose to use that airdam.

this 79 rx7 has a 85 body kit on it.... the only mods needed to fit the front was to trim the body kit around the bumper ends....

Ok sorry, I get the point now... Seems I didn't get the pictures downloaded properly the first time.
Anyway, I'm still not sure if that'd be SCCA legal (not familiar with the rules), so that's something to check first.
But why not simply ask Mariah if the airdam can be altered to fit the old bumpers???

this is the same front end on a 83 rx7... as you can see theres not too much thats different. it would be easier to modify than change the whole front end!p/s the primered bug in the background has a 12a streetport in it, we had to raise the deck lid to clear the weber that day

May I remind you that this thread started as a quest for a SCCA legal airdam? That's all the guy wanted to know, so if you like the Mariah or not isn't really the question. Even if I don't like ad-on airdams that much.
Prefer one-piece bumper/airdams.

The mariah mode four, I'm a 1982 rx7, what they do is replace the whole front bumper, to install the mariah you even have to cut the bumper struts. they furnish an
alloy piece that bolts on, then the airdam/bumper bolts up.the 79-80 front bumper is straight, so are the turn lights, the mode four uses the curved turn lights from 81-85.before installing the mode four,, it also has to be trimmed to fit. I'm thinking of installing headlights in the driving light buckets. they will fit. I can say mariah stuff IS made very well.
