Installing a new tranmission, what all do I need?

I was originally going to get a friend of mine to do this for me, but it's going to be several weeks before he can get to it, and I was toying with the idea of installing the transmission myself since I have a few days off in the middle of the week with nothing to do.

The car is a 84 GSL-SE. Transmission went south on me, although the car is still drivable. I plan on rebuilding the transmission later, but for now I've gotten an S5 NA transmission (thanks RotaryMike) that I'm going to swap in there until I get around to rebuilding the original.

My question is what all do I need to have ready to do the swap? I pretty much just have basic tools and a large hydraulic jack right now. I'll need to get some good jackstands of course, and I've considered getting a smaller jack to hold up the tranny when I'm installing/uninstallilng it. Anything else I'll need? Anything I'm overlooking?

And yes, I do know that I'll need to swap the tail housings between the two cars. The tranny also has some mounts with it in good shape, but I think I read in another thread you can't use them without modification, so I'll probably stick with the current mounts or buy some new ones if they are in bad shape.

There are some differences. If you can wait a little longer, someone with personal experience installing a T2 tranny in their 1st gen will be along shortly.

it should just bolt right up if you swap the tailshafts. and i can't remember if you have to mod the tranny mount or not. hmmmmm . let me know.

only problem i see is the SHYTTY gearing the FC trannies have. >=P

D'oh! I saw S5 and automatically assumed it was a TII. I must have missed the NA part. Sorry. I guess it's good I didn't mention that he'd need a different front yoke, starter etc with a TII tranny.

the tranny mount is on the tailshaft. Just swap over tailshafts. The shift tower and tranny mount will all line up using the s5 na tranny. Starter is the same too. The only shitty thing about the s5 na tranny is the 5th gear ratio. It's really tall, so your gas mileage will kick *** on the freeway, but your top speed runs will suck.
