installing new motor.

well, i bought a motor with 19k miles on it yesterday. i pulled my motor out saturday/yesterday, and plan to put the new motor in today.

question is.. should i remove the rats nest while i have the motor out? im just worried about creating problems with the motor swap for when i got to start it up.

another things, im going to be trying to sell the car once the motor is in. theres nothing wrong with it, im just ready for another car.

like i said 19k on the motor with NEW rotor housings.
new clutch/pp
racing beat header, 2.25" exhaust, into a stock over-axle back (comes with aftermarket over-axle back with muffler, it was just too loud and i got a ticket)
164k on the chassis
suspension tech sway bars
eibach springs
tokico blues sway bars
hawk hps brake pads (have under 1000 miles on them)
sumitomo htr 200's, (205/60/13) probably half tread life left
comes with three sets of rims
red exterior, blue interior (CLEAN interior)
its a gs, with gsl rear diff.

thats all i can think of right now.

im going to ask 2k for the car. its in richmond, va. anyone interested?

also, and pointers for putting the motor back in the car?

I recommend not making any changes when installing the engine.. The easiest way to create problems for yourself is doing too many things at once. If something happens and the car doesn't start, and you have to retrace your steps, it's easier if you have less things to look for. Just my opinion. Besides, if you're selling it, the new owner may need the rat's nest for emissions.. Good luck.

thats why i was debating leaving it in. ive wanted to take it out for awhile now, and i figure why put it back in, but i am afraid it will create other problems

yea, i made sure not to forget that.

i got everything installed today, got about $41 worth fluids and spark plugs. spun the motor over a few times without plugs in it to get the oil out a little, put the old plugs from the other motor in and she fired RIGHT up. im using the same carb that we rebuild and it seems that the floats are sticking. the fuel level in the bowls keep going straight to the top.

if anything has a KNOWN good carb they want to part with for cheap, let me know. other wise, im going to keep messing with it. it sounds alot better than the other motor when i was turning it over without the plugs in it.

im going to take the motor to my old auto tech teacher's class so he can see the inside of a 12a. should be pretty cool.

when you put it in keeep everything stock so if you have a problem starting your freshie you can eleminate that problem right off the bat. once you have everything in the go ahead and remove the nest it is just as easy with the engine in the car as it is with it out. once the nest is out, if you are keeping the stcok carb make sure you put the carb back under load(vacum) or you will lose your secondaries!!!

i put about 50 miles on the car tonight, and im driving a 60 mile round trip to work tomorrow with it. so far everything seems in order. my "add coolant" light keeps coming on, and its full? ill have to mess with it tomorrow.

im going to put it on a lift tomorrow at work to make sure everything under the car is tight and looks in good order (i did the swap with the car on jackstands). so far the motor feels real strong. i have no problem keeping the car, i think im just ready to move to something with more power / a better suspension setup from the factory. i dont really like the way the first gens have solid rear axles.

SOOOO EXCITED

here she is with no motor, it was kinda weird seeing my car like this.

notice how the front is white? thats not normal is it?

everything ready to go....

getting ready to start her up...

SMOKED like a champ. i didnt think to have the camera ready. it was MUCH worse at first.

clean rotor housing

i had to get this... i have a couple different friends stop by here and there, but my girlfriend was there when i took the motor out, she was there when i swapped everything over, and when i put the thing in. even today when i was having all those problems. she got her hands dirty helping me out, and she even said she liked doing it, but next time she wanted to do more stuff . i thought that was pretty dope. she asked alot of questions and i showed her how all the stuff works. if she didnt know what it was, she asked. if she didnt understand i showed her. definately badass

everything together...

i had many carb issues. i think they are all sorted out.. i REALLY wish i had a holly or weber.....

and this is the old motor. that thing was one HUGE oil leak. im going to take it apart sometime next week when i have some time so i can see the damages. its had a long and hard last 35k miles. lots of autox, running hard... just generally abuse.. ill admit. strong *** motor. it still has compression. i think there were other problems that caused it not to run (ie: ignition and carb flooding). i think it will still run, its just old and tired. ill post some pictures of the inside when i get a chance.
