inexpensive spark plug sources thread

I'm starting this thread in hopes that ya'll out there can list some good on-line sources for buying spark plugs. My intent is not to start YASPD (Yet Another Spark Plug Disscusion) please read on......

As everyone knows, good the spark plugs for our rotary cars don't come cheap. I use the NGK BR8EQ-14's and they run close to 8 bucks a pop from my local auto parts store. But it could be worse because when shopping for plugs for my other car, I was floored when I learned that they generally go for 20 bucks each! I'm glad it's not an 8 cylinder! lol Anyway, I looked around the 'net and found www.sparkplugs.com and got the same plugs for about 13 instead so I bought 'em and was . A quick search reveals that www.sparkplugs.com sells the NGK BR8EQ-14 for $6.11 each which isn't too bad either.

So the question for everyone is..... where are the good spark plug deals at?

The fact that your audi requires $20 spark plugs doesn't really surprise me, damn german cars As for the rx7's NGK's I don't think I've ever gotton them cheaper than $7 a piece and that was from NAPA with my gas station discount. I don't think I'd buy the plugs online unless the place had free shipping, cause that would be a few bucks I'm sure making any savings basically null.

I tried to get far enough into the order process to see what shipping would cost but all I got were server errors. Unless shipping is cheap, it seems likely that the shipping charges would outweigh the savings unless you were buying several sets at a time.

i found this site...

https://www.rockauto.com/

did a search for 1984 mazda rx7 13b egnition sparkplugs and came up with NGK BR9EQ-14.

It states that it's sold in packs of 4 for $5.21!!!!! I'm sure its each so times that by 4. But that price is good right? Total $20.84 before shipping

My local Schuck's has BR8EQ-14s and BUR7EQ and BUR9EQ in stock for ok prices. For the BR9EQ-14 plugs, I'd say that's a decent price, because Schuck's wanted like $9 or $12 for them, and they had to be ordered in.

My next plug experiment will be with BUR7EQ in Leading, and BR8EQ-14 in Trailing. Leading will run DLIDFIS so the surface discharge style FC plugs won't have to have power pushed through a dizzy cap; it'll be direct fire. The Trailing will essentially still be stock (other than going through the leading part of the cap), so stock FB plugs will suffice. I've already set this up on a rotary powered B2000 and it runs a lot better than when it had B8EVs and then old BR8EQ-14s. I still need to do this on one of my cars though, but I expect similar results.

My NGK's were about $5 each at checker autoparts. Seems like if you can't afford spark plugs then you've probably got bigger problems.

In the case of my Audi, after shipping I did save close to 20 bucks so it WAS worth it. Hey, 20 bucks is 20 bucks right? But you're right, the price savings of the NGK's might very well be a wash.

Yeah.... you have a very good point there. It's clear you haven't lurked around here much, this place is chock full of tight-wads.

That's quite an exotic Pantera you got there.... just out of curiosity, what's lures you to the 1st Gen RX-7 world?

I've had my '83 GS for 16 years now. Only had 8000 miles on it when I first bought it. Still had the "new car smell". Every single year for 16 years I've been telling myself that this is the year I'm going to build the 7, but then something else would come up that I just couldn't resist. Now that I've discover this forum I'm all excited to get the 7 built. I love to drive and the RX-7 is definately a drivers car.

my plugs at pep boys were less than $20 for the FD (BUR7EQ and BUR9EQ) plus military discount. I have to say any store with a military discount gets my business. Hell, I drove an extra mile today to get the military discount on a $.99 sponge to wash the car... Now that is a tightwad... Then again with an FD you gotta save the money to fix them all the time. Hence the reason I'm getting a GSL-SE here next week. Daily Drive and support the "FIX THE FD" Habit.

My local Mazda dealer charges $8 CDN per plug, and they're the only place that carries first gen plugs 'round these parts, h'yuk. Before I changed my dizzy to electronic, I was using the old three prong plugs, and they were a bit less. I should try FC plugs in the leading though and see how they work now that I'm running direct fire.

Has anyone tried the palladium and iridium ones that racing beat sells?

the sell the stock ones for $8 US, but they have palladium and irridium ones listed for $9.

That seems like an awesome deal to me. Palladium and iridium plugs should last 2-4 times as long as the stock plugs (as long as you get the right heat range), so its savings in the long run.
