I can't get any of the side seals out without cracking them. Any advice? They should be useable. I had over 8 on all the apex seals.

Oh those side seals. I was thinking you meant weather stripping. If theyre that bad you ought to change them anyway, you can get the gasket kit from Atkins or racing beat. Perhaps some kind of solvent or cleaner might help loosen it up. Try a Mazda dealership, maybe you can order them individually from them.

Yea, side seals. When I got the car the guy told me the motor had 10k on it. I didnt believe him until I saw the apex seals. They are all over 8mm but the car has sat for 10 years plus. I did find individual seals on mazdatrix, 10$ for sides and 5$ for softs.

Why did you tear the engine down?

I was not getting any compression. I purchased the car the way it is. It hasn't ran in years. I tried to get the seals unstuck but had no luck. I purchased the car to learn about rotary motors so it's worth the investment. I have the rotors soaking now, hope I can get a couple side seals out without cracking them.

Good deal. I can see why now, its a shame to have pulled it all apart to find that the apex seals are still good, they must have just been stuck from sitting so long. But this gives you a perfect opportunity to understand more about the internals of a rotary. Was everything in the car still stock? If so do you plan to return it that way?

When I got the motor, yes, it was stock. Now, I did try and clean the ports up a little. It did come with a couple stock nikki carbs, I also went through those with some info I found on this site and removed a bunch of stuff. I also have a header. I would like to get a carb, I'd love a weber setup but I have to see how much this rebuild will cost first. My initial plan was to put this motor in a mg but this car was too nice and the mg was a pile if garbage.

I love the seven, it performs so well and is fun to drive. Its nice to have a few spare Nikki's too. I've had a lot of problems with float needles getting stuck. So if you reassemble everything and you are flooding, that'd be the first thing to check. Are you planning to keep the omp or premix?

I already plugged the pump. So yea, i will run premixed. I am still soaking the seals and cracking them when I try and remove them. I have one that is 75% off but ive broken 5 already. Actually a few of them took quite a while to get out. I ground down a couple picks so they fit and were wedge shaped. That way when I tapped them they would slide under the seal and push it up. are there any rubber parts inside of the rotor? If so, I should get them out of the solvent sooner than later.
