IMSA air dam fog light question

I'm working on a reproduction IMSA style air dam for my car and want to run fog lights that look similar to the original ones that they would have come with. Some quick measurments show its 7" wide and 5" tall, is that the size I should look for? Just wondering what you guys have run for fogs with that air dam.
Thanks
Sean

Never ran any lights when I had mine. Although I felt that round lights may have looked better.

Sean, i dont believe the fog lights came with the air dam. more of an add on i believe, as there is no listing for them in the brochure. here is what the 84 brochure says about the IMSA kit:

Strange I always though it was part of the package, then again if that were the case there would probably be more used fog lights floating around.... I thought I saw one once though that had fog lights with covers that said Mazda on them. Maybe some dealers had them for sale or something. I'll have to find the picture I'm talking about.
Anyway, since it seems there was no "standard" fog light for this I'll just search around and find something I like.
Dave, on a side note the epa estimated 29mpg on the highway makes me LOL

I've seen a few in person, never was my thing personally.... Now if they had made the car a true Targa then maybe....

i do remember someone saying that fog lights were an accessory on the FB..though i've never seen them. perhaps the ones you saw in the pic were in fact just what i've only heard about.

Yea he was a memeber on here, name was "NOTA V6" last time he was active was early 2007 and his website detailing his T2 swap is no longer up... I had pics of his car on my old computer, but that was like 5 years ago... I'll have to look around to see if I can find an old backup disk or something.... I guess the bottom line is that I'll just search around for some decent rectangular fog lights and be done with it.

Richard, I believe that car was "badassrx-7"'s car. Notav-6's was a GSL-SE in white with color matched mirrors and larger fog lights that filled the air dam more than those did.
Hyper4mance2k: You're correct, the one on the car pictured above yours looks like a reproduction like mine is, hard to tell for sure, but it looks like a one piece. The part where it goes into the radiator opening looks to go further back (and also all one piece) than the originals did.

No problem Rich, I'll have to search some of my old computers back up disks to see if I still have any pics of NOTA V-6's car. Do you have any pics on your computer of Badassrx-7's other car, his two tone 83 LE? I always liked that way that car looked...

Awesome! Thanks, now if only I could find a set.... haha that would be a needle in a haystack I suppose.
Out of curiousity, do you have any idea where the switch was mounted for those fogs? There really isn't a "factory" spot for it on the 84/85 interior....

I just purchased an 84 GS. It`s got the full body kit with 3 piece front air dam, including mazda covered fog lights. The first owner installed a pull switch on the left side of the steering wheel near the mirror controller and ran power directly off the battery. I would post some pics, but they're too big of a file. I'll have to get an account somewhere for a url post..

Oh! When the car was delivered, the driver tore off the front air dam when driving it backwards down the ramps. There was also a Mazda 323 grill fitted in the air dam. That took most of the blow. I was so rotted. They offered me 500 for damages... wtf. anyways!

Bringing it back from the dead! But I really do want one of these front air dams for my car as well, best looking one on a mostly stock body in my opinion.

Hope you find some lights like these someday Sean, I know you already have some installed but would be a cool and rare add on!

I've got 2 sets of the factory fog/driving lights with the "Mazda" covers. They were on cars w/o the air dam though.
I have had several cars that were equipped with the lights but they were gone when I got the car. Everyone I have had had the amber colored "pull" toggle switch mounted on the lower right side of the steering column beneath the cruise control switch.
Kinda centered on that panel if that helps.
It was an amber switch with a black ring around it that said "fog lights" duh.
If you need pics of the mounting brackets to frame I can take some.
When the light was mounted in the air dam, there was a hold drilled in the top of the small rectangular opening and the mounting stud inserted up through it secured with a washer and nut on the inside of the air dam.
BMW's run these same style driving lights, so you can get a pair off a mid-late 80's bimmer.
Dealer installed/sold brand was "Bosch" not Hella. Although a Hella will fit the opening.
They were offered with yellow or clear lenses.
Hope that helps.

When the rain decides to stop I'll try to get some pictures, but I have the exact 3 piece front kit sitting outside. I don't need it as I was fortunate enough to find another full Japanese kit.

Can you get more detailed pics of what you have. Maybe some measurements of the covers would be nice.

I have just purchased some NOS bosch touring fog lights. I was hoping to get a match to the OEM lights that mazda offered. However, finding information on the bosch/mazda lights is very hard. I have only found one document on ebay talking about the bosch fogs.

I don't know how to upload pics onto this site. So here is my Imgur album instead.

Rx7 84 GS - Imgur

I'll try and paint it this summer or at least get the air dam back onto the car. I was thinking about attaching it with some bumper rivets or bolts.
I'm having some carb. issues atm. One thing at a time I guess. haha

Thats such a beautiful front bumper set. I've always wanted an original Mazda IMSA front bumper on a 7. Would be great to put one on the GSL-SE that I'm bringing back from the dead!
