I searched, but everything is vague and I need to know NOW please. will the 84 gauge cluster swap with an 81? I mean a bolt on swap, as in everything in the 84 cluster will use all of the 81 hardware. Also any quick tips to pull the cluster quickly. I have to get to the junkyard here soon before it closes, and I will be the one pulling the cluster.
Thanks,
Loki

Dude, from everything I know, the '84 cluster is tottaly different. The whole dash, center console, and wiring connectors are also. I would ask to see if you can get the whole dash and wring harnesse from that car if you can for a decent price. you can swap the whole thing, but not just the cluster. Hope this helps.

Yeah thats what I thought, and I dont want to do that, just I want more than an 80 mph speedo and this would be perfect. but i dont like the 84's dash, and if its that much hassle I'll just wait for an 83 with a 130 mph speedo. thx anyway

The 84/85 are a different shape and the connectors are different. You could make it work with some effort. I think that gonzz on here put an S5 cluster in his car. You just need to physically make it fit, then go through the wiring diagrams and see what needs to be connected.
Is there a reason for using the S3?

I think you can use the 83 speedo or even the whole cluster. They have the revised speedo of 130 mph I have not driven the car since I installed it but I think it should be accurate i will let you know when it gets back on the road. By the way I have an 82

its cheap lol, other than that no reason, Ive been going to this junkyard with an 84 GS and Ive been using parts off of it. for ***** and giggles I asked what they wanted for the cluster and they said 15 dollars, so I figured what the hell. but I just am finally fed up with the 80 mph speedo...

mine is an 80. post a pic of your cluster please
I don't know how to post pics, but I was just out in the garage working on the car,and it definatly has a 130 MPH speedo in the gauge cluster. This car is all original, and unmolested,so I know it is a factory speedo. This car is also an early production 79(built 5/78).
