Immediate loss of power.
Immediate loss of power.
I've got an 83 with 65000 miles. I put a can of sea foam in it today drove three blocks to the gas station and put ten gallons of gas in and now it acts like its only firing on 1 rotor. Replaced fuel filter. Was slightly restricted. Changed fuel pump out with aftermarket replacement, no change. Its wierd you can flat foot it for a 1/2 mile or so and when it hits around 5000RPM it takes off and runs great through secont and third gear until you let off then you have to wind it up again. Its an auto trans. Ran perfectly this morning. Any suggestions. I thought for sure the fuel filter was plugged. Now I'm majorly scratching my head. Thanks for any guidance I can get!
Hey, I got an email from you a little while ago. (Not really sure why)
I'm guessing the car is bone stock.
So it was running fine, than you used Sea foam, and now it doesn't run right?

Kentetsu, You ever put diesel fuel in your car? It was gasoline.
I tested each plug wire. Spark was present but appeared weak. Choke would not stay out cold this morning. Checked fuses. Engine fuse was blown. Put a new on in and fuse instantly snapped. Retraced my steps on what I did to the car yesterday. Air pump belt and Alt belt were both extremely loose so I tightened them up yesterday. Looked close around alt to make sure I didn't punch a hole in the alt or something crazy like that. I noticed a wire rubbing on back of Alt. The wire went to a connector and then into a switch of some sort that screwed into the left side of carb. I pulled alt off and sure enough a tiny burnt mark on back of Alt where the wire had rubbed through and shorted. Taped it up real nice and relocated the wire a little. Put a fuse in and it stayed and choke handle stayed out as it should and it was running like a swiss watch again. The sea foam and gas had absolutely nothing to do with my issue. Thanks all for your time.

That little switch off the left side of the carb is for the fuel bowl vent seloniod... make sure it's hooked up and getting power when the car is on.... It will give you exactly what your describing... loss of power. I had mine not hooked up once and it drove me crazy... but only sometimes... the car would run fine for a week and then like **** for two days... drove me absolutly INSANE for a good month until I finally figured it was the cause.
lol, no I have never added deisel to my car. However, there are a few threads on here from those unfortunate individuals who have made that error, so it never hurts to ask when you hear "I filled up the tank and now it won't run". Wasn't trying to insult your intelligence or anything.

Kentetsu,
I wasn't insulted. I was still mourning the thought of my car not running. I did think about contamintaed fuel but ran some out the fuel pressure tester into a clear bottle and it looked good. Have a good one.
