im so mad.... oil leak

wow im so frustrated with my 85 rx7 gsl right now... First the oil cooler line had a crack in it so i ordered a new one and tryed taking the old one off... which sounds alot easier than it was because the banjo end of the line was stuck and in order to get it off i needed to take off the whole oil filter assembaly which of course was impossible to get back together properly (one of the 10mm bolts (closest to firewall) wouldnt go in and after about 2 hours of attempting to get that bolt in and it falling everytime and hitting me in the facei just say screw it and go for a test drive to see if theres any leaks... So anyways after 20 minutes of driving everything seemed great then i get home and try to adjust the timing a bit and sure enough look down and where the oil cooler line meets the front of the engine theres a big leak i dont know how this is because i tightened the new oil cooler line in and yet it still is a steady stream of oil coming from it (in 20 minutes of driving my dipstick went from fuel to half) This is the most annoying thing because i havent been able to drive for a week and a half!!!

did you use copper washers? and i would reccomend putting the back pedistal nut on you dont hav e to go from the bottom you can be smart and go from the top with something sticky on your hand or i think i removed the oil filter then was able to get underneath the pedistal from above

Yeah, thats what I would say too Brandon. Those crush washers on the lines are one time use. They should be replaced if you hadnt replaced them, you can get em from MazdaTrix.

If thats not it, then I dont know what to tell you other than maybe its cracked around where it threads in and when you tighten it, it opens the crack? I sure hope thats not it though. Good luck though man, I know it can be a pain, but after you get it fixed, you'll feel a lot better

Mazda sells aluminum versions of that same washer for about a buck apiece. They work just fine--- I installed them on the fittings going to my oil cooler (I converted from the bee-hive cooler to a "real" oil cooler from an '82. They use the same washers).

After three months no sign of a leak.
