Time for some new rims (GSL-SE)!

You guys are great to keep me from doing something stupid (aka hood scoop). So I thought I'd post up some rims I'm thinking about buying and see what you all think. This is only for GSL-SE cars (4X114.3).

I'm only considering 15" and 16" rims. I feel that 17s are too much for an FB and I want some protection against pot holes and bumps. Yea I know there's lots of 17s to choose from but IMHO they don't look right on the car. Plus there is a known acceleration performance penalty for bigger rims. Keep in mind the stock 14" rims only weigh 13 lbs. and not many of the rims come in at that weight--most are heavier.

Here are my top four contenders.

Tenzo RS-5 15X6.5, 38 mm offset, weight ~16 lbs (my guess).

Motegi RT-5 15X6.5, 35 mm offset, weight 12 lbs.

Enkei DM5 16X7, 42 mm offset, weight 16 lbs.

MB Rev, 15X7, 38 mm offset, weight 20 lbs (the pig of the lot).

Right now I'm leaning towards the Tenzo's, I seem to like that look. These are going on my metallic black 7 shown in the sig. For the most part the full package with tires are running from $700-800 so price isn't a factor considering these rims.

TIA for your advice.

Scott

I like the way your car is with the stock wheels. If you had to get one of those I would get the tenzo's. But I would either get some panasports (or watanabes) or some nice meshies in 16's.

Why ruin a perfectly good looking SE? I vote for the stock SE rims myself. BTW, you left that option off the poll.

Be wary... the 16x7 42mm offset wheels will probably rub on your springs...

I run 16x7 40mm and still run a 11/4" spacer to get the clearance I want up front..

(on a gsl-se)

Go with some 15 inch konig imagines, like on Max7's car and on mine (only he and I have 17s) but out of the lot I like the MB's

I would only consider the Motegi's based on weight. It makes no sense to me to pay for aftermaket rims and gain weight! Plus the simpler Motegi design is more to my liking anyways.

Out of those I would say ---- Motegi RT-5 15X6.5, 35 mm offset, weight 12 lbs.

All the others look like crap. I would get some panasport rims if you can or have your stock wheels refinished.

I run a GSL-SE suspension and a 16x7 rim 42mm offset- the fronts have 205/45/16's and have no issues with them rubbing the ST springs. They do though hit the sway bar, also ST, but I remeber the stock wheel/tire doing the same.

My vote is the the MB's though, I wanted them orignaly but I impulsivly (sp) bought some other cheaper rims, kosei prauzer. Nice rims, but are to heavy and will be swaped with something else by next summer.

I'd agree, maybe I'm old school (right, I'm 23) but I think I'm going to get some pana's or if I can find an elipson style rim in 16" -so I can still use my 1000 mile old Kohmo 712's- that's what I'll get. Otherwise you might see me running the MB's or a more clasic style 5 spoke rim.

I think these would look great on your car, plus their really lightweight.

I like the look of the MB Rev's. But then I like the look of the rivet bead along with the japanese racecar style spokes. Makes the rim look quite bold IMO.

those are cool...

Although, a 44mm offset is too high.. and those are EXPEN$IVE

I like your car with the stock rims. I've always liked white or black SE's with stock rims.

I think the old school look is a SoCal thing. Maybe it'll spread to the rest of the country like the ricer revolution.
