I'm joining the club.... my new SA....

Well, as a kid growing up envying Japanese sports cars, I've always had a soft spot for RX-7s. I heard about this car being available, took a look at it, and decided it would be worthy of a project car. I'm not sure on the model, but it's a 1979 vintage car. It's a Canadian car, and has a 5 speed with rear drum brakes (so no LSD I assume). The body obviously needs to be painted, but has no rust anywhere, with the exception of some very minor surface rust. It runs fairly well, and only has 138,000 original kms. The interior has been partially redone with new leather on the seats. There is some (medium) cracking on the dashboard, and some fading of the plastic on the doors. I need to do a carb tune-up and spark timing adjustment and I hope it will run a lot better. Right now it seems to have lots of juice at above 3000 rpms, but coming off idle hesitates and sometimes stalls. Is there a FAQ procedure for these items? I've never owned a RX-7 before, and was previously a 240sx nut.

I plan to keep the car as original as possible. I might replace the rat's nest down the road once I have a better understanding of what the pros and cons are, and I will probably do a coilover setup within a year or so. The paint should be done in the next 2 weeks, and I'm thinking either maroon or black for colour choices.

Thanks for the info, and I'm happy to be part of the community.

Welcome, I would do the basics first, change fuel filter, easily done located in front of fuel tank on drivers side, new plugs (NGK or Nippon Denso only), wires and distributor cap.

There are several easty upgrades to be found in here that are DIY and well worth the effort, take a little time and browse, particularly the 1st gen FAQ and do searches for everything.

nice SA!

no rust/ minimal rust is a BIG plus when you're doing body work. Hopefully we'll see some before and after pics up soon!

It sounds like you got a GS because of the fact that it's a 5 speed

good luck and welcome to the forum

Huh? Can you please explain to me why he has a GS because its a 5 speed? You can tell its a GS because it has no sunroof but I don't understand the whole 5 speed thing...

It's most likely a GS because it's got no disc brakes. Having a 5 speed has nothing to do with what model it is though.

SA's are different

The S came with a 4 speed

The GS had a 5 speed, rear sway bar, and a/c, and some other goodies i think

no SA's had rear disks, because GS was the highest model lineup

anyway, thats what i know, someone can correct me if i'm wrong
