I'm gonna kill my car, WTB: New engine back plate

I was driving my car today, running 8psi. Couldn't hear any detonation or knocking. Timing is retarted 1 tooth on the dizzy from stock. I was on it pretty hard, but it's only 8psi, and the back plate cracked! Anyone have a good one for sale?

Let me guess; near the oil filter pedestal right at the dowel pin hole. It's a common occurance on 12A Y castings and S4 rear plates. The 12A castings lack the rib. Not sure about S4 castings.

Use the drag and drop technique or just copy and paste this URL to see the pic (geocities). http://www.geocities.com/cd23c/rib.jpg

Coldy,

I'm located pretty close to you (Richmond Indiana) and I've got a blown engine out of a parts car I'm using for my Auto to 5 spd swap. I'd be willing to hook you up if you've got the tools to open up the engine. I've just basically got hand tools and don't have the power to get some of those bolts out that are torqued down to the higher psi's.

Heck, if you were willing to hang around and help me out with my 7 for a little while I might even let you take the thing for free if it is what you're looking for. I could use some help on the auto to 5spd swap, and I'd like to actually meet some of the people on this board and hang out. I've talked to lots of you guys on the phone but have never had the privelege of hanging out with another rx7 owner and actually working on a 7. As far as I'm concerned that would make for one hell of a fine weekend.

Lemme know if you are interested. You can make the trip to Richmond and maybe we can help each other out.

This is the street ported engine, right?

I have a couple... Let me check to see if my non-ported one is OK. I don't think my porting would be very compatible with the porting on your other housings.

I thought your engine had those additional dowel pins in it? How the hell did it crack?

It was running lean, I don't have any exhaust sensors, so I have no idea what the EGT would be. Carb is a weber 48, F11 e-tubes, 160air bleed, 200main jet. It really shouldn't have needed more fuel, but it did. I'm waiting on some F16 tubes and bigger jets.

I do have a studded block using 1/2" studs and larger ports than this engine. But the studding work broke through somewhere and is letting LOTS of coolant leak into the combuston chamber. Only on one housing through. I need to pressure test those housings to find where it broke through and to see if I'll be able to fix it.

Problem right now is it's way rich in the midrange, and lean up top. f16's are leaner in the midrange and richer up top. If they don't work right then I'll start trying others.

Oh... I thought you got that problem licked.

I still don't see how it'd be physically possible to "break through" to the combustion chamber...

It either broke through to a spark plug hole or exhaust port on the rotor housing, or to the intake ports on the plate.

I wish I had fixed it, I just ported the other plates I had here and ported some old housings with a bit of chrome flaked off them and put it together.

Yes, it was pulling very hard. At 6psi and running horrible I beat my dad's G35 from 5-70.

How's your car doing? Are you close to having it running yet?

Okay, one of my friends just upgraded his TII to a racing beat system, I'm sure I could get the stock downpipe and send it to you for free.
