i'm fed up

i dont understand i have an 85 gs (196,000 miles) I removed rats nest new coils plugs cap and rotor. My car runs like crap. When i try to adjust the timing to what it is supposed to be the car stumbles or sounds like it is missing and it wont idle. Also now it revs up really slow bout 3 or 4 seconds to get to 7 grands please someone help.

ps i have mechanical secondaries also and compression tested it and it has great compression .

yep, look around the base of your carb, and the plastic spacer. Make sure all the vac lines are plugged, also make sure that the EGR valve is plugged off and sealed well, that is where my problem was. You should only have a vac line running from the spacer (I think it was the 1st or 2nd spot from the front of the spacer) to a T then to both acctuators on the dizzy. An easy way to check for leaks is to use some good carb cleaner and spray down the carb area along w/ the EGR spot and looks for bubbles.

Verify that you have spark on the leading ignition. Also, concerning the timing, be aware that the front pulley can be mounted in four ways (only one of which is correct). So if you try to line up the marks, and then she runs like crap, you might want to verify that the pulley is mounted correctly. Look in the archives for the detailed thread on this, it is very easy to find out if its messed up.

i have good spark cause i bought 2 new coils that are 45000 volts or whatever. So your saying that i only need vaccum on the distributor which is connected to one port on the vaccum block. and i do not know where the egr is.

Just because you bought a million dollar platinum and gold coil does not mean that you have spark. You need to TEST for spark, physically see that the spark plug is firing.

Take off the dizzy cap, line up the timing mark on the front pulley and the arrow on the rotor should be pointing at the drivers seat.

If it ran fine before the rats nest removal, leave the ignition alone and go back over your work first. You missed something.
