I'm considering trying the Atkins solid corner seals

I think I may give these a shot for my current 12A project. I think that they may be better for a streetport setup with an early opening. It seems to me that they will be supported better since there is metal where the stock seals have rubber. Does anybody have any opinion of the solid corner seals?

The solid corner seals will make no difference with the porting. I did use them in my bp and they seem fine, but I only have 2k on the rebuild.

Most of the engines I have torn down were missing some or all of the stock rubber plugs. To me it's just one less piece, actually 12, to worry about. I think the stock plugs do help seal better for compression, but not for the life of the motor.

I saw a thread on nopistons in the engine rebuilding section about how solid corner seals cause more harm than good. I'm still up in the air about using them on my next rebuild, but I'll have to go find the thread again.

Found It (log in req'd of course)

Might want to read the stuff that has been going on in the NW section before you buy...

Most of our local guys have moved over to nopistons.com due to the whol thing.

I stand neutral, just for clarification, but I still refuse to buy from them until things start to turn around.

God, I can't believe people squabble between forums. I only post here more often because I started here much earlier, then became mod. But I make it a point to pop my head in over there once in a while, the rebuilding section is interesting. But I could never understand why they call us the "evil" forum and some of our guys return the favour.

As for Atkins, *most* of what I've seen of them speaks good about them, so I haven't seen enough to be convinced otherwise yet. Dan's a little slow on the clear corners project, but that's hardly his fault from what I can see. He even offered to give people their money back right here in public forum before people started asking for it.

Anyhoo, I think the thread was more a tech thread about whether or not he should use solid corner seals, not whether Atkins are good people to buy from.

In either case, I may stick my head in the NW section and have a look.
