Ignitors

Hi
I just removed both Ignitors from my 85 for testing! What is that stuff (paste?) behind them? Is it for isulating them from heat, or to help them conduct to ground?
Thanks

It's a heat conductor, so it transfers the heat from the ignitor to the distributor.

I think it's sold as heatsink paste at your friendly local electronics store (Radio Shack).
