Ignition Timing???

I thought somebody posted a lil tutorial see...but I can not find it...

I checked my timing and it seems to be off..

my bully has 3 marks on it...looking at the front of the car the bully spins to the right...(clockwise)....

So, as the bully spins I first see a yellow groove...I believe that is '0' degrees, yes? next is another yellow groove, I believe that is the '20' degree mark, Yes?

Hayes says to align the trailing plug to the 'red' mark???

IDK...can somebody please shed a bit of light on me here...I know this is a simple thing.....the manual only speaks about 2 marks and my pulley has 3; 2 yellow and one red. and there is my confusion...

thanks in advance...

Your PULLEY, is it stock? Maybe its not stock. You can go back and determine TDC using the
flywheel and dizzy to see what mark is zero and go from there.

thx...

ok, this is starting to make sense...I have a two belt crank pulley,,,along with two belt alternator pulley, (along with alternator) so I believe that is not stock. The car is only 3-4 months old to me...

I forgot, the top plug is trailing and the bottom is leading....CORRECT?

SO, the leading was timed on the red dot and the trailing was set at the middle groove marked '0'....and nothing at the groove most to the right...

I adjusted all I could and I could not get either one to be set like the manual says,,,"leading one the first groove" and "trailing set at the red mark"
I could get pretty close to those settings...well, I got the leading almost to the middle groove and the trailing almost to the red dot..(before I ran out of adjustment room)...and the car's idle rose about 250 rpm didn't do a drive test as the car is not all together and I believe it is still 'off'.

How exactly does one perform the procedure You described using the flywheel and distributer??
Thanks...

I guess picture says a thousand words...

Here Is my thinking here...is it not true the crank rotates clockwise when standing in front of the car? SO, the leading fires first, so, that should be set at some place before (on the pulley) than the trailing cylinder...COrrect? and that was not the case on the car when I first checked it... the leading set on the red dot and the trailing set (TO THE RIGHT) at the middle groove...

geesh.... thanks!

thanks....but, thats about what the Hayes manual says...problem is that I have some sort of aftermarket or custom fitted pulley that has different markings...and it is making it tough for me to figure out where I'm at...

Perhaps somebody can recognize the pulley and give me a heads up on it..
thx.,,

hey man what the other guy said, is what im going to repeat. Go off the flywheel and find TDC from that. Aftermarket flywheel or not, it can only go on one way with the woodruff key so it wont lie to you. once you know TDC then check you pulley and make a mark and maybe take a wizard wheel or something to it and put a LITTLE cut into it so you know where true TDC is. then go from there with your timing. Thanks....I guess that is what I will have to do.
I can find TDC on a regular piston engine...but on a rotary ..can somebody explain it to me?
if the the woodruff key at 12 o'clock position, does that mean TDC? I have replace the clutch (well I paid a guy to do it for me...lol) I gotta use my resources wisely...and my body is one of them, 'resources'..lol..

anyways, I just got the car back from the clutch mechanic (Monday) , started messing with timing, and some other things, took car for spin, sorta hit second gear with a bit of authority...and now I got some sort of clunking noise.., "oh great"..called Mechanic, says bring it in on Monday....something musta come loose or broke apart!!

So, on with finding TDC, can somebody just give me a quick rundown on how to perform this? I know I have to put the mark on the pulley, depicting TDC and degree in my 20º for the trailing plug with degree wheel or something of the sort? Yes?

The thing that bothers me is that the car was set up with the leading on the red dot & the trailing on the middle. now, how can that be right? the leading is supposed to fire BEFORE the TRAILING, correct? how can that happen if it it is timed on the red mark as depicted in the picture I posted before? IDK, I'm just a bit confused on the car's previous/current set-up...the guy I bought it from only had it for a short period of time and the guy he got it from was an 'electrical engineer'...according to the seller...I should had run when I heard that, lol...anyways...the more I mess with this car,,,,the more I think it was built completely from scrap parts from several junkyards...lol oh, I love me some mechancing...lots of little bugs...to run down...

Well, perhaps I made an error in judgement....se, I have cancer and I take lots, I mean lots of drugs...and they cloud my judgement....lol...so I got the timing figured out....leading on the middle mark and the trailing on the red dot that is last in the rotation......but on the the transmission...urggh....!!!!
