ignition problem? wont idle

my car had a perfect idle at 600, no problems, has dlidfis. i was driving, when all of a sudden, it started missing under light throttle, and cruiseing. when i pulled to a stop sign, it died, it wouldnt idle. it will run , but i have to feather the throttle. it runs poorly, but when i get on it, it pulls hard to redline. im pretty sure its the ignition, but i have no idea what to look for. today i replaced the battery, and stripped the wires, and re-attached them to the terminals for a better connection. the car was driving fine, then for no reason, it started missing, so i dont think it has anything to do with fuel because it pulls to redline without bogging. so if you could give me your input, i'd appreciate it.

another reason i think that it is the ignition is because it backfired more, which to me means that the fuel is not being burned completely, because the faulty ignition. im pretty sure the carb wouldnt just start to dump a bunch of extra fuel in. but i dont know where to start, i checked all the connections on the plugs. i checked one of the plugs and it sparked, but it looked sorta week. im thinking of returning it to the stock ignition to see if it will eliminate one of the factors.

Thumbs up

Your carb is clogged, your jets to be specific, your not getting enough fuel.
Take the filter housing off, start your car
let it warm up for a minute, then rev it to like 5000-6000 then place your hand over the carb, it will suck anything clogging your jets. I've done it before works great. Then after that change your fuel filter. Good luck man.

that cant be, it doesnt have any of the sypmtoms of a fuel delivery issue, if that were true. it would bog at high rpms, but it doesnt. unless you can justify what your saying. but if the jets were clogged, they wouldnt just block fuel at cruise, but also at WOT.

Check and make sure your still getting spark out of the coil, although if you have someone else do this, it's really funny to watch then try and reconnect the wire to the coil without shocking the hell out of themselves LOL

Possibly only the primary jet is clogged, and the secondary jets are still clear. Actually, when I was reading your first post my first thought was exactly what 84GSREX posted. And the part about covering the intake while revving, spot on. This pulls a huge gulp of gas outta the carb and sometimes will pull the sludge/clog out with it. Worth a shot, and its totally free...

If that doesn't work out, then you really need to check spark on your leading (lower) plug. You said you checked one plug, but you didn't say which one. Actually, with your ignition setup, maybe you need to check both lower plugs.

Don't put your face over the carb when doing this either. Oh, and put that damn cigarette out!

ok, before i tested the leading on the front plug(thats the one i thought was weak.) and just now i tested both trailing, and they fire strong, the leading are weak. so im going to replace the cap and rotor tomarrow, and see if that fixes it, if not, i guess i'll borrow a coil from one of my other cars.

quick question. could i the stock trailing ignitor in place of the stock leading one? since im using the second gen coil.

ok, well i replaced the coil, the cap and rotor, the wires, and it didnt do anything, so i started looking at the carb, and i sprayed it with carb cleaner, did nothing.

then i noticed one of the ports on the manifold was open, it was covered BY A FREAKIN PENNY SUPERGLUED TO IT!! and that fell off. so i fixxed it and it runs just as good as before. i will re-bed my brakes tonight, then i will be ready for the autocross this weekend.

Awesome! I just put my new RB swaybar on today and what a difference! Man, that thing is massive. This is the first time that I've ever actually added weight to my car, but it was well worth it. My only complaint, they put a little decal on the bar which misled me into installing it upside down the first time. Turns out that their decal was upside down, so I had to tear it all out and redo it in order to get the endlinks to meet up with the bar ends. Such a little detail, but resulted in huge *** pain. That's what I get for making the assumption that someone else will do things correctly... Oh well, it was still worth it!

Yup, that is where the "No 2 Anti-Afterburn Valve" hooks to the intake. Hard to believe anyone would just superglue a pennie on it, rather than use a rubber cap. Hell, if they are that hard pressed for cash, jam a bolt in the hose that was originally on there.........
