Ignition posibilities?

I have an 83 gsl with the mazda trix holley set up.. the previous owner deleted the rats nest and all the solenoids... after looking at the rats nest diagram i noticed that their are two solenoids for the leading and trailing advance?? is this why my car hesitates between 2500-3500 rpm????

I am looking to upgrade the ignition to better burn the fuel mixture provided by the holley set up... what ignition has worked best for you tweakers out there... i was thinking on the msd 6a... Will i need duel msd's with duel coils for this application? is there an aftermarket distributor that would work better than the stock 12a's? please help I am a newb with rotaries and am trying to learn as much as possible..

The car will eventually be used for autox and putting around town (if i can get it passed the inspection station and through emmisions) but thats ok in two years it will be an antique hehe.

save your money and yank a 2nd gen coil pack out of a junk yard. http://www.smnc.ca/hosted/2gdfis/ <-- check that out for better spark. if you are feeling even more invigorous theres a more complex way of using the same coil pack in the 1st gen archive.

as for hesistating at 2500-3000rpm, that sounds like maybe your secondaries coming on, but they shouldnt be that early, maybe someone used the "screw trick" on your carb so that the secondaries are mechanical now.

no they are still vacuum secondaries.. as i said b4 its a rb holley set up. plugs look fine but i replaced them anyway along with cap and rotor. seems to be running rich still. when i stomp the gas from idle it wants to die but other than that it seems fine. I am still trying to set the idle but i can't seem to find a vacuum port with full manifold vacuum on the rb intake or holley carb....

Don't remove the ignitor if you decide to go with 2GCDFIS. It's unnecessary work, and you'll be glad you left it in there if you choose to upgrade to the transistor trick.

are you 100% they are vacuum secondaries? I have mechancials and you can not stomp on the gas from a start or it will die out. you have to roll into it. and as for the vacuum advance, I never had mine hooked up and it never hesitated.

i just installed another msd to another fb yesterday. he too has the RB holley setup and was having a major bog issue around the same time you are describing. now it's practically gone. he can cruise and it doesnt hesitate anymore, and when he stabs the throttle it pulls alot harder now. all the way to 7000rpms. his powerband used to only be from 5,000 up due to the hesitation. now he can pull hard from 3000 - up.

msd 6a to the leading side of the distributor cap. works amazingly and is very reliable.

edit: forgot to mention he has the secondaries wired to open mechanically.

It is definately vacuum secondaries...... When doing the msd 6a are you just changing the leading sparkplugs to the msd?? or would i need two coils? I am not too clear on how this is done.. (oops nevermind)

also I just found out that the previous owner did not upgrade the fuel pump as rb and mazdatrix suggests... what fuel pump should i go with and what regulator? does anyone know?
