Ignition key stopped working, how to remove steering shaft?
Hey guys,
1984 Rx7. The ignition key stopped working and i have a spare steering shaft. However i cannot figure out how to remove the shaft. I undid the two bolts near the ignition switch but cannot get it separated from the steering box. What am i supposed to do to get it to free itself from the steering box?
I would just swap the switch but unfortunately it is riveted to the shaft.
according to the internet it is supposed to just pull free but it does not seem to be wanting to free itself.
Thanks!

To remove the ignition switch, what you are calling rivets are actually funky headed bolts. Cut a slot in the head of each bolt and use a screwdriver to remove them . If you have any questions or want to make sure we're talking about the same part, just post a few pictures.

The steering shaft (and column) are part of the box if you have manual steering.
You have to take the lock cylinder assembly off in order to remove it...
Every modern car uses tamperproof bolts to hold the ignition lock cylinder in place. They have heads that twist off when tightened. You can use regular bolts to put it back on.
