Ignition help
So I have an 83 Gsl and I just recently installed dual 36 dcds on it. This question will have kind of a long back story so bear with me. I installed them and tried to fire it up only to find out that I had no leading ignition. I swapped the igniters and it started right up. It doesn't run well so I figure thats bad ignition timing and a bad ignitor (which is now on the trailing side). So I ordered a used but tested ok igniter from mazdatrix and figure it would be an easy fix. I installed it and hooked up a timing light and I still have no trailing ignition. Im almost positive mazdatrix didn't send me a bad ignitor and I confirmed that the problem was an ignitor in the first place. Any Ideas or advice? The only thing I can think of is that the back of the original igniter has a coating of dielectric grease on it from the factory….the back of the mazdatrix one is dry. Could it be it is not making contact from the lack of the dielectric grease? Thanks for reading my long, drawn-out sob story.

What's the condition of the dizzy? Maynbe a bad pickup? Idk much about ignition but if it was me I would also re-verify that everything is connected properly (grounds, etc) also I would test the ignitors manually just to make sure they are both good. I've used them both dry and with dilectric grease and they have always worked either way so I doubt that is your problem.

Its just strange that when I switched the ignitors initially when the leading stopped working it fixed the problem. Thats a pretty cut and dry ignitor problem to me,
