Idle when cold

Good morning. Just became a proud owner of an 85 GLS-SE. Great condition overall.
Just one question for now. When warmed up, the car idles great at 800 rpm. No surging or anything like that. Question is, what should idle be during warm-up when started on cold mornings? When first started, it idles around 2200 to 2500. Then slowly comes down. Seems a little high to me. Is there an adjustment for that? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

That high of an idle is common for a cold start on the FI engines, nothing to worry about.

Yeah it does, and the 2nd gens are even higher sometimes. Keep in mind that the rotary engines are quite different when it comes to oil supply and how/what needs lubed. I've personally worked on SEs that had over 244k with nary a problem due to the high rpm cold starts and some 12A have gone 3-400k before giving up the ghost.

So wait Troch what are you saying? I thought that the rotary engines needed at least 1200-1500 rpms to sufficiently and effectively run the oil pump, not true? Cause i seem to remember a couple guys running there idle a little higher to keep things lubed.
