idle/high end problems
I've driving a stock '85 GS, only 18,000 miles on her, and it seems to have a bit of an idle problem.
Running warm or cold, when I pull up to a stoplight, the motor will idle smooth for a little bit and then kind of sputter like it's going to stall out. It gets pretty rough at times.
Also, when I get the car up to about 70, it starts to sound and feel like it's straining. Of course, it's a stock motor, so I don't expect it to get up to 140 painlessly, but I don't know if it should feel how it does at 70.
I did some research searching the forum, and people mentioned fuel pumps, vacuum seals, carburator rebuilds, I thought about doing a distributor/cap/rotor rebuild (cheap repair).... but I can't find anything specific enough for my problem. Of course, thats because I'm not entirely sure what the problem is, does anyone know of any sure signs to look for? I can watch RPMs next time I'm in the car and see when the idle problems go away, and when the car starts to strain. God, I hope this isn't a one rotor problem. Got the car from an older lady who only drove it 1,000 miles a year, god knows how long it sat around...

My car will painlessly pull past 70 any time I step on it, 5th or especially 4th . I can out accelerate many cars on the highway simply by stepping on the gas. I would say check the fuel system from the tank to the carb. Filter, pump, check valves, hoses, then the carb. It may just need to be cleaned out a little.

Also...
I noticed that I have a little 'shudder' as I shift into first from neutral, and I figured it was just human error... but then I saw this:
Racing Beat Torque Arm
Does anyone else have this problem?
