WA idle going crazy.

1985 gsl-se, all stock.

I recently replaced the plugs and wires, put a afm adapter with cone filter on it, and put seafoam through the vacuum line as well as the gas tank.

I was driving down the street, the car was running fine. Then all of the sudden I pressed in the clutch and the idle went up to about 2100-2200 rpms. It was missing too. I shut the car off, waited a second, and then started it back up again. With the clutch out it didn't miss but the idle jumps in between 1300 and 1600 rpms. As soon as pushed the clutch in it jumped right back up to 2200 and started missing. When accelerating it seems okay, but the throttle is really touchy and pressing the pedal down just a little makes the car miss and jerk.

I tried switching the ignitors and running it again, but it did the same thing. I'm clueless. Any ideas?

There is a wonderful write up on solving the GSL-SE surging problem. Mostly i believe it comes from the throttle body plates. Grab some throttle intake cleaner with the lubricants and clean the throttle body and make sure to clean the plate pivot points really well.

You would do well to read the article since the SE is so prone to having idle issues. Also use the search function to find any articles with posts from Longduck. He was the Yoda of the GSL-SE.

Whatever you do, do not short hop the SE- turning it off right after turning it on, then you have flooding problems.

The idle surging really is kind of funny when you pull up next to a heavily modded mustang and the 7 starts revving! Maybe it does it on purpose? Mmmm...

I saw that you have blaster 2 coils. Did they make a difference at all? I was thinking about getting new coils.

I don't think they made much of a difference overall. I do sleep better knowing that i upgraded 23 year old ignition coils. Ebay has a plethora of them, and I will probably put one into my 884runner also. Save the old coils for emergency back-up.
