what should my rpm's be while ideling?

let me explain what the problem is. when it's ideling it seems like it wants to die, but it don't. i don't know if it's the timing, the idle needs to be adjusted or what. and ideas of what could be the problem?

I idle my car at 1000rpms. It should idle at 750rpms. you can check for a vac leak. check the timing too. i thought mine was right for a long time then found out it was way off.

I think i remember your car being carbed. Right??? could be the idle mixture??? BUT i would try the other stuff first.

you adjust the idle SPEED screw. Its a bit harder to find. Ill see if i can find a pic but its right near the throttle linkage.

and my accellerator pump is leaking, could this have somethin to do with it?

replace that, then see where it idles

No, the accel pump wont suck extra air in. But if its leaking, you should replace it. What year US Army? Theres 2 flavors of carbs which idle adj is different for each. Yea it does sound like you have a vacuum leak.

it's an 84. i read on here somewhere i just spray wd 40 on the hoses and if it revs up the leaks somewhere around there?

ive heard carb cleaner. WD-40 might work. ive never used either of these methods. I guess im luckky

Idle speed adj for you is the screw aft of the accel pump. Its kinda buried and hard to see.
