I want this Front bumper!!! check it out
I have been looking for body kits and especially front bumpers for my 79. I found
this pic and i really like it. Dose any one know who makes it or any thing about it. l
let me know.
I also have rear quarter panel that is pushed up just under the gas
tank and was wondering if theres any kit out there that will wrap around it?
heres the link to the pic of the front air dam i want:

I'm not much for bumper kits, whatever you do will mess up those classic first gen lines. But there's something about this project that Damien and his Dad have going on that I like:

Maybe it's that it's different and totally homemade, they didn't use a kit. Impressive body work!

Ray I appreciate the amount of work to make something like that but I have to say its not my cup o' tea.
I am interested in a decent front air dam to stabilize the car when its going over 90 mph. If you've ever gone that fast in an SA the float you feel is pretty scary.
I'm more interested in this lately because I want to take the car out to the track for some fun runs and the air dam would fix that issue.
Of course for normal driving there's no reason for it, you won't normally ever get to go fast enough on the public roads to ever see this affect.
Areodynamics affecting car control isn't an issue until you approach 100 mph, under that you can't really feel anything except the gas mileage affects, which you feel in the wallet mostly these days

Agreed Tim, unless you are racing the dams are rice.
In fact, the tapered nose of the 1st gen RX-7 was specifically designed to give the car a little lift at highway speeds so that it is lighter on the tires, increasing tire life and gas mileage.
That's why I'm able to get well over 100,000 miles on a single set of tires with my mostly highway driving. I've got 120,000 on my current set of Yokohama's and still no signs of wear.
You gotta love those Mazda engineers.

the bumper on the red car belongs to one of the guys who helps sets up the seven stock events every year...He attends the local san diego meets every month his name his melvin...
Thanks in advance.
Your a friggin' genius Kent. Not as smart as the guys who designed and constructed this front bumper:

But smart enough to be an engineer or something.
Thanks!

I was thinking air dam, the OP was thinking bumper I think. I think if It keeps with the classic looks of the car and is functional It is not rice. As for driving over 90 mph. (I used to commute a 100 mile empty stretch of I-70 at 4 a.m.) And I can tell you that from top speed the front end on the '85 will not "lift" enough to affect handling. But if you hit a jack rabbit the size of a coyote then you will need to replace your stock front air dam. and it bends the metal plate beneath the rad.
