I thought synthetic oil was bad??
I have talked to the guys at rotory performance and they told me that only use synthetic in there rase cars and if I was to use it in a daily driver to change the plugs every 3 - 6 months, and to never use castol syntex.
Why would Mazda be a good source of information on the subject?? Mazda is in the business of making and selling new cars, not keeping old ones on the road. Do you really think that if Mazda discovered some miracle product that made their rotaries last longer they would tell us about it? And recomend it? No way!
If you are brave enough and have the cash to waist, use the new Castrol Syntec. Let me know your findings. If you do use Syntec...then start to have that problem...."oh ****, I think I threw an apex seal!", drive it home slowly. Drain the oil, clean your plugs, then add in real synthetic oil...like Redline.

I dumped Castrol Syntec in my Honda for a change at 155K miles, and it lost (Dunno where it went. No leaks, no smoke.) a quart every 2-3000 miles... Never done that before. I put up with is thinking I had ruined a seal, but decided to stick to the synth as the gas milage went up by almost 5 MPG. (Now I hear it was unwise of me to do this as it should have started leaking like a sieve.) Switched to Mobil 1 at the 165K mile mark and it's slightly overfilled, just like I left it after 3k Miles. And the gas milage went up yet again, although just slightly.
