Exclamation I think I'll be getting a first gen

Hey I might be getting a FB soon. My friend has one for sale. They are selling it because his brother can't drive a stick, and his dad wants his truck back from my friends bother. I went and looked at the car it was parked at a school near me. Its blueish grey with basicly perfict grey interior! Could use some new paint here and there. I have to call him about how much. Its an 84 it has a 4barrel carb is that stock? Also I might trade my 89 automatic probe for the car so his bro has a car to drive. They dont understand the rotory and don't want it but i do. Any info on FB's would be great thanks.

the carb probably is stock. the engine would be a 12a.
check out the rust situation on the car, because that seems to be one of the big killers in our cars.

I know a little about these cars my other friend has one I've helped work on it some. The car is actualy rust free on the outside, I'm very surprised and happy about that.

Just sit back and read away. You'll pick up some of the best info about the cars. Great group of people and seem to know a lot about the cars. I love my 1985 gs. Best $500 I've ever spent on a vehicle

Hi.

Here's a buyers' guide that I found useful:

http://rx7.voodoobox.net/infofaq/bguide/bguide.html

Are you asking about rebuild kits because this car needs engine work, or for another reason?

Good luck,

Thanks for the info and links. I'm looking at the rebuild kits because the engine has a fair number of miles. Also if I do end up rebuilding, I'll probaly port it while I have things appart.

Well I talked to the guy about the car. He said there is no vacuum to the distributor or somthing. Also if you put the drivers side window down all the way, it comes out of the track. He said he wants $3500 but because I'm friends with his son he'd let me have it for $2800. I think this is a little high, but I really want the car. I have to dubble check with his son about them needing a extra car thats an auto. If they do I will see if he will trade the rex for my probe, for his other son. How much do you guys think this car is really worth??

I personally wouldn't pay more than $1500 for any RX7 (unless it was a GSL-SE, which the one you're looking at isn't) I got my 83 for $1150 and it just needed a battery so I think you should either haggle the heck out of the seller, or look elsewhere. Just my opinion though.

$3500? You're getting hosed at $2800 if you're already thinking of a rebuild. Check out the recent thread on here about what people pay for their first gens. Generally, unless they are modded or in *exceptional* shape, they're right around $1000 to $1500. There was a guy on here earlier who wanted to know what a *showroom* RX-7 was worth (something like 11,000 orignal miles and well maintained). General consensus was $4000. The window regulator will set you back about $100 also. Find out about that vacuum leak...how does it run? Trading the Probe sounds like it could be fair, depending on what shape it's in and how you like the car. You'll have more fun with the RX . I certainly wouldn't pay what he's asking though. That's not much of a price for a friend!

I talked to my friend at school today. I said that I won't buy it at that price. I mentioned the probe trade and he wasnt sure. He said he would try to get him down to $2200, I said thats a start but still to high. So I'm going to print up some kelly's blue book prices and show him tomorrow. But as of right now I will not be getting the car. But I will probaly end up getting it once he hasn't sold it after 3 months lol.

I paid 2200 for my 84 GS and got completely screwed. My car had so many problems that I should have gotten it for 200 bucks...but, hey, someone has to be a sucker. I would have paid 2200 for the car if it had been imaculate, but it wasn't and it's a long story I don't want to go into.

My RX-7 has more miles than my Honda. If you treat a N/A rotary right, it'll last damn near forever.

I think some of us have close to 200K miles on our cars. I'm at 175K... Still had enough power to plow through the back of a Corolla and after the accident, move out of the way of traffic despite a 45 degree out of parallel on the front wheels.

On kelly's Blue book the car came in between $950 and $1275. I think I will print these and give them to my friend.

screw the price he's asking. tell him to lay off the crack and then at least research how much their car is worth. jeez, 2g+ is insane. use patience, no one will probably buy at that price and then they'll get frustrated and go ahead and sell it to you.

I PAID $2025 FOR MY 85 GS. No scratches or tears inside, immaculate interior. Exterior was great except for a little fade on the hood. Runs great and I've only had 1 problem which cost me only $50. I thought I overpaid too. But the car has no problems and looks great.
