i think i might have bent my motor mount

when i lowered my tranny it came down pretty far and then wouldnt come down any farther... it just hung there,, i got the auto off and now the motor is sitting there by itself... the mount looks a little bent but i cant fully tell....

im just wondering if its ok for the motor to sit ther by itself withough anything supporting it...

i couldnt find a proper jack spot because my jack has a huge head and it would have been in the way of me removing the tranny....

im hoping when i get the 5 speed in (if i can ever find a 54mm socket that it will all line up good...

Greg,

As far as the socket goes, I've found that a 2 1/8" socket works well. It is the same size as the 54 mm, but is much easier to find. Sears has them for about $24.

Nah, the rubber in teh mounts will give. I doubt youll bend the motor mount. ****, the motor only weighs like 250 fully dressed. One of my parts cars had no tranny, they just let it sit back on the beehive, didnt mess up anything.

Why dont you just put a jack stand under it with pieces of wood on it to get the height right? That way you don't have to worry about it at all.

Those motor mounts are solid rubber, no metal through the middle. I'd take something to support the motor and fast before the mounts rip in half. My driver's side mount ripped in half just from the torque of the motor.

Yea Greg I know what your asking. You aint gonna bend that bad boy. You'll probably crack the front cover before you bend the brace.

I managed to bend that front motor mount bar... not from letting the engine hang there, though... but even still I would recommend against letting the engine hang only by the front mounts... at least buy a $10 bottle jack for under the back of the oil pan... It can't get in your way THAT much...

if you jack up the oil pan please make sure you put a board under it before you do it so you don't bend the pan. You'd be surprised how many people don't think and put a jack through their oil pan.
