Ok, when I removed my interior, I think I disconnected the wiring to the fuel pump... I can't get the car to start, and I don't hear the fuel pump running... My entire interior is still out, so sitting on the floor with nothing in there, I think I'd be able to listen for it. Somebody, please tell me how the wiring for the fuel pump goes, FROM THE DASH BACK.

I dont know about it from the dash, but the wires come through a rubber grommet in the floor underneath the storage bins.


You should be able to see the colours and perhaps trace them back from there.

i beleive the wiring goes under the carpet on the drivers side, check the connection on the wires coming thorugh the rubber grommet under the driver side storage bin

Wiring travels from the dash area (not sure of origination on the FB) under the driver's side door jam and up around (or through, hard to remember) the rear tower and then there's a plug mounted above the fuel pump hatch area.

Doesn't the fuel pump wiring come from under the hood, from the relay, and go down through the firewall and then to the pump? I don't think there's anything ebtween but I can't be sure.

wiring comes out of the fuse box under the dash, down the driver sides, into the driver's side storage bin. there is a fuse for the pump, might wanna check that too.

I just checked my fuses... The 20A fuse marked "ENGINE" on the fuse box cover was blown. I changed it, but still nothing. If that fuse blew, could my fusible links be shot?

On an 80' It's a black with white stripe wire that starts up with a group of turnon wires (same colors) located on the drivers sidefire where they fall inot the passenger compartment. There is a metal ECU box that controls a few things there. Check that harness is connected and that all other harness are connected. It may be linked into a harness in another part of the vehcile and being used as a common source wire.

I see the dash is gone. What are your plans for the car?

The first pic of the drivers side bin, the grommet that goes through the floor, goes to the fuel pump, and that is connected. Follow that wire pair forward.

With the current state of the wiring, good luck. At least eveything is accessable. You probably have something minor unplugged. Also check the connections at the pump, if it isn't stock.

The interior was maroon.

Key word, was. Everything is now black or gray. I'm reinstalling the interior as soon as I have this wiring mess cleaned up.

Is it connected correctly? I mean, that is the right wire? I threw out all the speaker wiring and the factory amplifiers. I hope I didn't accidentally throw out something I needed.

OK, I just went out there again... The fuel pump is definitely not working. I just replaced my fusible links with the big square fuses, all the fuses in the fuse box are fine... I guess maybe the pump just **** the bed. I have no idea.

are you sure that it's actully pluged in? there is also a conector under your dash that if not plugged in your pump wont work. Look under your bin and make sure it's pluged in. Do you have a repair manule for it?

Yes that is the correct wire pair, blue with a white stripe and a black wire, from there it goes to the fuel pump relay.

I went through a full int swap and only had a buzzer problem but the car did start after I put everything back in. Did you try connecting the gauges and see if all the warning lights light up.

Guys. This is an 84 - 85? it has a relay under the dash and the fuel pump only works when the trailing ignitor is sparking. So it only pumps when you are turning the car over. I cant hear them run when the car is trying to start. to check the pump you have to use a jumper wire on the Relay. the pump will then run all the time. There is a very good diagram in the archives on where to put the jumper.

there is a two prong plug going threw a gromet in your drivers side storage bin. The one under your dash is an 8 maybe 10 pin plug that also goes to the ECU for it to control if your pump is on or not.

Yep, it's an 84. I reached under the car and kept my hand on the pump and cranked it, didn't feel any vibration or anything.

Use the connector going directly to it to apply 12V you can then see if it is the pump or the wiring.


Other then that just keep reconnecting wiring until you find the one that makes it work.
