try getting them lapped after you're done with the port job. however, i must say that i'm a bit concerned when you say you made a template from "looking at pics" ...

If you want to take the guess work out of the timing buy some templates for Mazdatrix or RB. They're less than $50 and are well proven designs.

Home made port

I would be careful, I did the same thing (SWAG) on the first engine I ported. It was so radical that it would not idle below 2500 RPM. Order the template. I also recommend that you order the exhaust template . You did not say so in your post but if you are going to port the intake you should balance it out by porting the exhaust. Good luck.

looks like the grinder got out of control.. I usually put duct tape around the port so if you slip that don't happen. I also agree with everyone else.. Spend the 40-50 on templates.. It's well worth it.. hate to tear your eng back down because you saved 40-50 bucks..

You might get some more responses if you use punctuation and type in a form of English we can all understand.

for what it's worth, go hang in the engine building section at www.nopistons.com and if you're hell-bent on not spending money for templates, you can learn how to make your own from plexiglas or sheet aluminum.

wish you the best ...
