I was selected to test FiTech!
Morning fella's. I have some pretty cool news!
I am being drop shipped one of FiTech's new fuel injection units to test on the rotary engine. I have 4 port 12A and 6 port 13B variations, and these will probably be the most likely candidates for a carb-replacement system anyhow, but if anyone near PA has an RE block or t2 (Or aggressively ported engines, mine are mild), that want them tested let me know.
Go EFI Power Adder
This is the unit. Its a boost prepped version of the base 400 hp unit. It features 600 hp capability, and has been built around the idea of turbocharging.
The selected unit is called the "Power Adder 600" version of the "Go-4" throttle body.
Yep. Its TBI. BUT, its actually a rather clever design. It has every sensor except the water temp sensor and oxygen sensor built into the TB, and has a standalone self tuning ECU attached to the front of the unit. So theres very little wiring.
It has an annular discharge pattern from the factory, and the chokes are removable and feature a "swirl" injection pattern, pictured below.
This is actually very attractive to me.
The unit also has laptop tuning software installed, so its not a "locked" useless self learning ECU I cant fine tune.
They have these running very well on very small volkswagen engines, so naturally the rotary is next to try it out.
I will have full support/parts from the MFG to make it the simplest install possible.
Wanna know what else? Turbo-charging FB's has a lot of little mods required because most were originally carb'd. One of the major hurdles is the fuel system. The 12A cars have a puny 1/4 return line, which normally needs enlarged to 5/16 for a properly return style regulator to perform correctly. Also, this makes it crucial to mode the fuel tank pickup to accept the larger size, AND for a turbo you normally want to make some kind of slosh cup in the tank to keep the pump/pickup submerged at all times.
They are sending me a solution to this too!
They are calling it a "Fuel Command Center", and its basically an aux surge tank with a second high pressure pump inside of it to directly feed the unit.
FiTech Fuel Injection
It uses your existing low pressure fuel pump to keep it filled, and has a secondary pump inside of it that feeds the throttle body. No return line to the tank needed!
It looks like something from a space shuttle, but hey.
The internal pump provides 58 PSI, and can be used on ANY fuel injection system with that as a requirement. Its a neat alternative to chopping up your fuel tank or fabbing a fuel cell.
Pretty cool stuff aye?
I will have everything here in May, and will start the testing. Very excited to see how it does.

Oh, Its nice don't get me wrong. Just ain't cheap. And I've heard bad stuffs about the other brands (msd, holley).
$80 for an MSD 2225, $100 Mallory 4309, and $20 for 16' of AN line and you're in business with a carb... Hard to beat price wise.
Looks like fun though. I like the self contained idea, especially cause the o2 sensor and water temp sensor are less than 10cm from the unit. Which raises the question how susceptible to heat from rotary headers is the thing?

will be watching this. been considering these types of setups for quite some time now. couple others also use the same setup for fuel supply, for engines running the mechanical pump.
nothing about efi is cheap, especially in a kit form. and sourcing parts individually can be a headache just getting what's needed so it all works together.

By the way, does the "Fuel Command Center" get mounted in the engine bay? I'm looking for a convenient way to do a boosted Nikki in a rotary truck and already have a nice big Carter with a big 3/8" feed line from the tank. I'd love to just leave the Carter alone and mount this "Fuel Command Center" in the engine bay, then have it go to the mallory 4309 already mounted in the engine bay, then on to the Nikki like normal.
This "Fuel Command Center" might be the perfect thing for us with non baffled tanks or non slosh cup tanks. Thoughts?

It has a needle and seat inside it, like mechanical injection. That seat maxes out at 15 psi.
I am tempted to install bulkhead fittings in the storage bin area and install it there.

Holy crap, now that's a surge tank!
When I briefly used the OEM FC EFI I used this surge tank with 2 external pumps.
I'd like to do a DCOE style ITB setup, but it's the upfront cost and time of changing everything.

It is the perfect thing haha. My thoughts exactly when they described it to me. You can mount it anywhere that gets fed by a low pressure fuel pump normally.

This thing runs at less than 15#s? I was under the impression that TBI ran higher fuel pressure than that like 50 or so.
That tank thing is looking more and more cool.

On second thought, I don't think this "Fuel Command Center" is going to work as I had imagined. You end up with 58psi which is kinda high for the mallory 4309, which is similar to the output of a walbro 255, which has given me trouble in the past, requiring me me to swap to an MSD 2225 pump which runs closer to 40 psi, not 60. Which I... sorry, I was also required to install a 3/8" hardline under the car going back to the tank. Sadly, this "Fuel Command Center" would also require the 3/8" hardline if you wanted to use a mallory 4309 with it.
I think I'll look into j_tso's surge tank instead, and feed it with the big carter. Or maybe go commando and just try the MSD 2225 with no surge tank directly up tot he mallory as the draw/feed point is at the bottom of the fuel tank, and fully 3/8" (the same size as the MSD pump's inlet).
So, you know, it's just a thought. I'm still gathering ideas.
Anyone else have any ideas?

The unit they are sending me CAN run ignition. It currently doesn't have a rotary function, but we've actually talked about being included in that development as well

Damn, this almost makes me regret going weber... the $1500 price tag, all inclusive, is appealing as well. Sure you could piece together a megasquirt system for cheaper, but then it's a pieced-together system, where as this is made to work together.
EDIT: http://fitechefi.com/default.asp.pg-GoStreetEFI wow this seems like the ticket right here. $1000 with the fuel command center and you're stylin'. Seriously considering this (of course this means keeping my Holley manifold around...)

Yeah, Nikki is still cheaper in the dollar/fun ratio.
I think my 79 mani was like 80 bucks, and my Nikki core was 25$. Rebuild kit was 30-40$.
For my 12a at least, there isn't a better way.
