I need Quick carb help for SA

I have to get on the road to an autocross here shortly, but I have not yet been able to sustain an idle with my Nikki after putting her back on. I can't find any vacuum issues, so I just need someone to tell me where to base line the idle air and idle mixture for a starting point, as what I remember is apparently wrong. Carb is a 80 fed model (no cali) and is on a stockport 12a.

Just tell me how many turns out for each, and yes, I know not screw them all the way in and damage the "needle" valves .

Loading tires and anxiously awaiting your help.

If you need it, you can borrow the carb off my 85. its just taking up space on the floor.

Sorry Joe, but the kind of time needed to swap a carb is not a luxury I had this evening. At 10:10 I was in Indiana heading north. I am in Kokomo now. The hotel has high speed internet at least.

Nikki issues I need to resolve tomorrow...

Will not idle, but runs smoothly until you lay into the gas. Major hesitation for a moment then the acceleration starts again and pulls decently to the top. AP is not leaking and the shots it is making when manually operated looks good. I can't tell if it is dropping too much gas and bogging or if it is dropping to little gas, or if the timing of the shot is off, so I am not sure what is causing the AP issue.

Idle pretty much has to be settings, as I have checked every possible vacuum leak source and have found no leaks. Doh. I am at a loss.

Hope Im not too late to help u. You said you put it "back" on. If it was idling good before, dont **** with the idle air/fuel screws. They dont mysteriously go out of adjustment. You probably do have avacuum leak. On the hesitation, I think your on the right track with the timing of the pump shot. It needs to start squirting immediately with the throttle opening or itll bog. Trust me it wont dump too much gas, the ap jet is tiny. Adjust the lock nut on the end of the spring rod till the bog just goes away. thatll keep the pump shot maximized and the timing correct.

Well the carb had sat for quite awhile. He has a set of Webers he usually runs, but one needs a rebuild, so he swapped back to the Nikki till he can get his Webers lined out.

Hey James, what did you set the fuel press. at?? I assume you checked the site glasses??

Oh well, hope the AutoX goes good, sorry I couldn't make this one...

2-1/2 turns out for both screws is a good starting point.
