Question I need a new muffler!

Anyone have any suggestions? I recently put on headers, and my muffler I have now makes it sound like a cheap Civic. I want to get one that lowers the sound a bit (not really volume wise, but tone). I'm thinking anything less than $120.. Othwise i'd just get the RB one.

Thanks!
Matt

borla is cheaper than a RB power pulse, after you buy a $80 to $100 muffler then get it welded on.

I believe the sound that you are going for would be the "weed whacker on crack". Thats what my grifriend said when she first heard my Seven.

cheers'

It sounds like the Civic from hell, or weed whacker on crack... both applies. It has some crappy universal muffler on it, thats pretty rusty. I'm looking for something on the cheap end.

Edelbrock makes and RPM series out of stainless with ceramic packing. It would last but god knows how it would sound. You could add a resonator tip.

Their whole product line is straight through design, no baffles. Drive a screwdriver in your ear to get an idea how it would sound on a rotary. No Joke!

NOPI has a MONZA Exhaust bolt on by Pace Setter for $105 in their online catalog. Does anyone know anything about them? Price is sure a lot better then the RB Power Pulse.

It gives it a lower "english" sportscar brap....they'll last as long as they stay in the back...they won't if they're used in front of the axle...know this for a fact, but with a lifetime warranty, you can keep replacing them and you're only out the cost from the muffler shop...

I'm sorry to say that I've got the full Pace Setter exhaust (header and muffler). It IS cheaper, but the header required a lot of modification to make it work and the muffler is more of a megaphone than a silencer. Also, the paint on it will only last about 20 minutes before it starts to burn off, but the smell will linger on for weeks. I'll try to post a sound byte sometime soon.

It was inexpensive though

its a dual tip turn up style

i have a racing beat header and the small presilencer

its has a pleasant low tone at idle and and gets progresivly louder at full throttle,

its not that loud
no cops even looked at me since i got it all put on

its quiter then my dynomax with the stock manifold

Magnaflows provide very good performance and decent sound deadening if used in conjunction with the racing beat dual presilencers or a good cat and pre-cat. I used a 2.5 straight thru Magnaflow and it scooted. When cops rolled by I had to take the foot off the loud pedal. Go down to 2.25 or 2.0 diameter if you're more concerned about sound. Also, a long tail pipe does help reduce sound.

well mine has drain holes in the tips,
so if you munted it upside down it might look silly,

also mine has writing on the side of the tips

and with them pointed up my flames shoot straight up in the air,

looks cooler then shooting on the ground

Just a thought...........

Considering how often you replace mufflers (which is almost never), if you're planning on keeping your Rex indefinitely, get the Racing Beat one.

From your intro, sounds like thats what you want anyway. So, you'll be happy, your Rex will be happy, Racing Beat will be happy.

Suddenly I have an urge to go rent the movie Cocktail.............

Don't worry, be happy.
