I need to make my car more secure, right now anyone could break into my car....

ywah, so i have this issue of my drivers side window not wanting to stay up. it rolls up and down just fine, but you can just place your hand firmly on the glass and pull it down from the out side.... not that i have anything in there to steal but for the sake of security i would just like to know if anyone has expierence with the same issue?

what would i have to buy to fix this problome? help?

Time to pull the door panel and check the mechanism. Something doesn't sound right. If the window rolls up and down smoothly, one shouldn't be able to slide the glass down.

Sounds like the balance spring has broken or otherwise is not working....
If you have the door panel off already, taking the mechanism out is a simple job. There are two screws that hold the glass to the regulator, remove those (at bottom of glass). Then about 6-8 10mm head bolts hold the mechanism in. Be careful of that spring - I ended up putting in electric windows but not for the reason you may...

I had the same problem, when I replaced the regulator the balance spring mount had twisted the metal of its mount and started to tear away. Replacing it fixed the problem, but be careful. When I removed the first section of bolts the spring let go before I was ready to pull the glass and the whole system blew apart. luckily I didn't break the glass.

Look up one of the factory service manuals (archives or in Trochoid's signature) and see the exploded view of the windows to see how it works.

Same thing on my GLC's passenger-side window. I don't mind, though. I mean, not many people are going to think of trying that, anyway. I don't keep valuables in it and no one's going to try to steal the car itself (and even if they wanted to, it's not like it would be hard regardless). It actually came in handy once when I locked my keys in there.
