How can you tell it's a late 70s 13B? I mean, I believe you, but I can't figure out what you saw to give it away.
Anyway if that is what it really is you don't need the GSL-SE front cover since the old style motors had the right mounts for the 1st gen and distributor, you may need the GSL-SE oil pan, not 100% sure.

post a pic of the mazda script by where it says 13b.
if it is a bridge port you ought to be able to reach your finger in the ports and feel the "bridge"

It's a bastard (kinda like the thread starter... kidding).
Notice the intermediate plate looks a lot like a tall port Y casting from a 1st gen 12A. The rear plate is also a Y casting, as is the front. The rotor housings are from a thermal reactor '76-'78 US spec engine. Notice the air bleed ports have been filled in, and the shape of the exhaust sleeves. The waterpump housing is 2nd gen, probably S4 ('86-'88). Alternator is most likely '84 or newer 55 amp or more.
So there you have it, yah bastard.

Agreed.....nice call, Jeff!
Looks like a nice engine. Not suitible for EFI,although that wouldnt be impossible, just have to put the injectors in the manifold.
The housings used to build it arent the highest tech/newest,but that hardly matters so long as whoever built it knew what they were doing.

am I the only one that noticed the hugemongous sig? Can't wait to see how long that lasts.
if you use it your going to buy it you might want to find out how long its been sitting and how its been stored. If its in some guys dirty garage with all those open ports and oil filler.
