Unhappy I need help ASAP, I have a meeting to go to, and my car sucks

Hey guys, I'm back with another problem...

Here's the situation:

I drive around for about 15 minutes (car's warm) and then as I go to accelerate out of a turn, the car bogs down, starts doing the wonderful lurch like when you blow a shift going to second, and then it feels like it's running on one rotor... then it dies I let it sit for 10-15 minutes, and it'll start right up, full power, idle nicely, and drive like it's new... then it all starts all over again. I just put this engine in, and I'm using all my old stuff.

The car's a '79 GS with an electronic ignition (the one from the sketch on a napkin) and an '83 12A. No air pump, all vacuum crap removed, no A/C, no vacuum advance. I'm pretty sure it's electrical, but could it be that it's the fuel filter? New coils are damn expensive ($68.03 canadian for one) and I don't have that kind of money.

HELP

Jeff

i'm running a purolator red from advance auto and the purolator fuel pressure regulator. seems to be doing fine for me right now. it sucks massive rust chunks through the lines and into the filters so it can't be too bad.

K, got a new fuel filter, dizzy cap and dizzy rotor. It didn't work, got a ride to my meeting in my mom's van, and on the way home, I picked up a fuel pump. I noticed while the car is running, the fuel filter (see-through) isn't filling up any more than about 1/8th of the way. This is bad I'm assuming, so I'm thinking that the car is starving for fuel. I'll put the pump in tomorrow and see if that fixes it... hopefully, otherwise it's the coils, or condensors.

did u open the old filter to look for stuff in it?, u can also check for fuel flow by pulling off the line at carb (nearist windshield) when the car stalls again, should be a good stream comming out, there are two fuel screens in the rails on top of the carb that may be clogged, and there is a metal check valve in the return fuel line next to carb that may need cleaning, be sure to put it back on the same way u took it off ,,,good luck,,hope its not rust in the tank,,,,it wont go away,,,,

Well, I think I solved my problem, I pulled the line off at the carb the last time it stalled, and there was no fuel. the pump was going good, the filter wasn't even half way full. I pulled the tank, looked at it, and saw that the dent that is in it (from the autowrecker) was right where the pickup line is (like putting your straw right on the bottom of a glass and trying to suck water through). So I think it was sucking enough through to fill the float once, then it was dying from lack of fuel. I pulled out the fuel level float, and popped the dent out. Started it up, drove it around for about 25 minutes (enough to empty the floats for sure) and it seems to be fine. I drove it later. Anyways, back to my Information Technology class, and Visual Basic programming...

Hopefully I solved it, if not, I guess the Rex will be drinking more money this week...
