Let me be the first to say : NOOB!

I'm joking, bro.

Let me get back to you on 1. And 2.

3. NO! It is a bad idea, as it leaves too many unburnt deposits. And it's more expensive!

4. I'm confused on what you're asking? If you're asking wether an Edelbrock carb will fit on a 12A: Yes, it will. Go to www.racingbeat.com for details

If you're asking wether the filter element will fit on the stock Nikki Carb, I don't think it will.

Peace

1: 90-100 psi on a piston type compression tester is expected from an older 12A. From a newer one (less mileage), 110 psi is good.

2: Get NGK. I don't know the exact part numbers, but look it up in a search. Covered MANY times.

3: Definately not for reasons stated above.

4: If I understand your question correctly, then no an edelbrock air cleaner will not fit a Nikki carb. The opening is about an inch or so too big. Edebrock air cleaners are made for edelbrock and holley carbs which require a larger opening.

BTW, welcome to the exciting world of the RX-7.

They pretty much hit all the bases...on #2...make SURE that it is an NGK plug...they were specially designed for the rotary engine...the NGK plug that fits the engine that is...and on #1...around 100psi is decent...anything in the low 90s...its about time for a rebuild!!! (which is not necessarily bad...cuz then you can PORT!!!)

The Denso plugs are also fine. They are listed as a plug choice in the Haynes manual, and the FSM.

drschwinn2002,
I got a good recomendation get the victoria british rx-7 parts catalog. They have all sorts of parts, gaskets, and other goodies.
http://www.victoriabritish.com/
as for advance auto( I got one in this town), and they never carry anything for the 7 let alone they always give me the we cant even get it at corporate....line Kinda gets old after a while. I wont even go there anymore.....Long live NAPA!
As for the Carb....Dump the NIKKI, or Get sterling to fix it up....
Use a Weber or Holley setup you can get intakes and carbs from lots of vendors check ebay first though or the for sale section here at the forums. These guys usually got some good deals. If your the do it yourself kind buy a rebuild kit from victoria british...its umm let me check real quick.......part number 56-810 and its $24.95.

I had a SA('79) with the same problem. It ended up that the line coming out of the gas tank was completely clogged. did you take the fuel line off the carb and let the gas flow into a container, just to see how it's flowing?

All RX-7's are old.
1. Search
2. NGK
3. You CAN, but not recommended unless you block the OMP and premix with 2 cycle. If you don't know what I just said, then search for them, too.
4. I believe you will be breaking irgin ground with Edelbrock and the supportive knowledge base of this forum will not be able to help or advise you. Stay with tried and true, especially since you are a nube.

"sethedic" your spelling is pethedic !
