why do you hate starters?

Do you really want to get under there and crank it yourself?

Try changing a starter in a Lexus ls300. (I think) V8. 4.3 , 4.6 something like that. They put the starter in the block valley. Under the intake. Also put the bolts in from the transmission side. Barely enough room to get a wrench on it.
I love starters. 2 bolts, 2 nuts. Get paid between 1, and as in the Lexus 6 hours. Only takes half the time to change.

What kind of mechanic work do you do.... Dr. Evil

Yeah, check your battery terminals, your ground connections, your fusibles, and then smack the heck out of your starter.

For lack of a better way to start it - push it (you *do* have the 5-speed don't you?).

Yeah.. mine conked out at the meet... just shortly before I broke my clutch disc. Hmm.. that wasn't the best day ever for things to break.

Where to get a starter? Well they have them in the Victoria British Catalogue, they probably have them at Mazdatrix, but I'd just go to your local auto parts store and grab one. It's just as good, and won't cost you the shipping and slightly higher prices of the rotary places we go for performance parts.

Now if only my car was much lighter... like composed completely of carbon fibre with an all-aluminum engine.. then screw the starter I'd push start it ALL the time

Jon

well i work on semis at one job and cars at my other.. i work for sears .. so its not big stuff.. but do my fair share of starters and alternators..yeah i had to do a starter on my old *** laser once.. that sucked you have to take the passenger side drive shaft out.. pain in the ***..

as for the hammer i will do that tomorrow after work. and i didnt try to push start it,.. i guess that would work too.. it is light as hell.. i also need to sand down my rear driver side fender and re paint it.. i had a tire let go of its tread and smacked the fender took most of the paint off... no damage though thank god.. and i didnt wreck
i was going 100 mph at the time... i have some skills let me tell you.

those are a bitch. i work at a lexus dealership. its a ls400, ls430, gx430/470, and lx470. (there is no ls300 )

something i learned the first week i was there, if its say a ls400, it has a 4.0 liter v8. ls430, 4.3 v8, is300, 3.0 inline six. basically the first 2 numbers in the name are the displacement of the engine.

its not that bad once you do a few, but getting that intake off/on is a pain in the ***, plus on the SUV's you bent over that thing and its so high.

well i got out there in the pouring rain and smacked the starter.. and nothing still.. so i disconnected the battery and cleaned the terminals again and nothing.. so i wiggled a few wires and nothing... so i think it just may be bad.. it looks really new though.. i havent taken all the wires off and crap like that but like i said its raining.. so its still just turn and click ... just once ... so i guess tomorrow is another day..

You should check and see if your clutch interlock cable came loose. My car was exhibiting the exact same symptoms two days ago, and it turned out that the wire telling the starter motor if the clutch is depressed had wiggled loose (its the small wire on top of the two big starter power cables, and is attached with a blade connector, so its bound to vibrate loose at some point or another).

Just use a test light and make sure the starter is getting a constant and signal. Big wire constant hot, little wire hot in start.

Bring it to an automotive electrical shop, most will rebuild them for you. Then you'll know some 5 yr old in bangcock didn't assemble it on an assembly line.
