I got me a FREE 1st gen gsl-se :-D

Well guys, I would like to say hello to all of you first-gener's. I've had a fc since june, and have since fell in love with the rotary. However, I managed to hit a curb and bang up my suspension a bit, and I am, like a lot of you, a poor college student. So, my 87base is sitting on brand new wheels (i bought after the crash) waiting for me at home. HOWEVER... Here at school (lehigh university) I am good friends with a guy who has had 2 rx-7's (his t2 got stolen tho) and a protoge, and just got a rx-8. Anyway, his 84 gsl-se was just "taking up space in his garage" and he didn't want to go through the process of selling it for just a few hundred dollars, so, he's giving it to me the papers have been signed by his dad (who legally owns the car) so it will now be mine. I'll hopefully get it up here on sunday, and I'll take and post some pix.

Who would have thought i would be one of those lucky ******** who was in the right place in the right time?

anyway, I hope you guys are just as helpful as the 2nd gener's are and can't wait to ask a billion questions!!!

What kind of shape is it in? lets see some pics!

my friend says it's in real good shape, said only thing it needs is a new front fender (somebody hit it just after a new paint job apparently), might need new brakes, and the interior isn't in very good shape, but that's ok for those of us who are going to be taking summer classes and need something to take up our free time... he is also a mechanical engineer, and designed/fabricated a custom exhaust which is essentially a header to a straightpipe. So to pass emissions i'll probably have to do the ole dry gas trick, but we'll see.

as far as pictures go, i'll get some up as soon as i see the car myself, which will hopefully be sunday

i'm actually trying to get a degree in "computer science and business" - i figure with that i can make some big bucks to pay for some fun toys... but i love working on cars, i'm in the process of "pimping my ride" (my 86 maxima station wagon) and i want to fix my fc, and who knows what i'm going to have to do with my new first gen... i'm thinking custom interior stuff will be a fun project (if anybody has any sugestions for cheap interior stuff, let me know) bottom line, i love rx-7's, and can't wait for the day that i can afford a fd! (0-60 in 5.1 stock... mmmmmm...)

You could make the 1st gen the ultimate project car. Make the maxima a daily driver, scrap the second gen, and make the 1st gen a very fast widebody. You could go with a mariah widebody, then do a 20B swap. Make the 20B have 500hp and you have one smokin first gen.
(just kidding).

You could do a few basic mods and make it a dedicated daily driver. It will be quite reliable too.

Yes, and it is beautiful. Only a few problems here and there... the straight pipe is AWESOME, the car is rediculously loud. Overall in great shape, but it does need a new left front fender... it's night time so the pix are dark, i'll post again tomorrow once I can get some daytime pix of her
