I found out alot of bad news about my SE on carfax

I just found out the car was completely totaled and issued a salvage title in '94, at that point it had 118,000 miles (odometer doesn't work), after '94 there have been 6 owners (including me). I wrecked it over the winter and that panel completely shattered with bondo, so god knows what else lies under the paint. Just a reminder to everyone, ALWAYS carfax a car BEFORE buying it, i don't want to see anyone else make the same mistake i did.

I did a carfax after I bought mine, I was lucky, came out clean as a whistle. But, it is good advice, my bro's 300z had odometer fraud, and a few other nasties... but he bought it with a blown motor, so he didn't care.

It must've been slammed hard in the rear, when i sanded down the front quarterpanel the only layers were; a blue sealant, grey primer, and the beige paint.

The game is Rally Trophy... it's a goodie. Wish someone would figure out the code and make a rex for it, tho.

The previous owner actually ran a CarFax on my rex even though I didn't ask for one. But when looking at cheap cars under two grand, isn't the mechanical and physical condition of the car at the time of purchase more important than the actual history? I mean, who cares if it is a one owner if it is a POS. And who cares if the car has been repainted and had ten owners if the car looks and runs great. But selling a car with a salvage title without telling the buyer is illegal. It is called 'fraud'.
But I have been lucky with my car- 2k miles and over four months and I haven't done anything to it yet.

www.no-grip.org is a good RT site. I made a bridge ported sounding engine for the Escort. There are TONS of car projects for RT. It is probably the best racing game for PC.

But anyway.... Do you love the car any less? So it was totalled. In '94 the car was probably worth maybe $3000 and with Mazda's pricing it wouldn't take much of a hit to total it.

Hell my friend's ZX2 was totalled last year... in a minor front accident. All it required was a new rear bumper (about $190), every new visible body panel fore of the windshield ($700 from junkyard, it's called a "peel off" BTW), a new radiator core support as well as a P/S reservoir, radiator, condenser... Stuff adds up fast. "Totalled" doesn't necessarily mean turned into an unrecognizable ball, it just means costs more to repair than the car's monetary value.

That's what sucks about driving old Japanese cars... if two birds crapped on your hood and stained the paint, and you tried to make an insurance claim of it, they'd probably total it.

I know in WA, the title looks different and says salvage after it has been salvaged, so it is fairly obvious.

It was issued a regular titled after the salvage title somehow, it showed that on carfax. Three people showed up having a "salvage/rebuilt title", for the 4th person it said "title issued"

With the computer system the DOT uses today, it is difficult to hide a salvage title. But, that being said, a friend of mine used to buy and sell wrecked vehicles from auction. He got burned a couple times with salvage title vehicles that didn't have salvage titles when he bought them. He told me that he knew this girl that worked in a certain county courthouse that could 'clear' a title for him. I am not sure how she did this, but I assume it required a re-issue after a 'lost title'. Makes you wonder... . . . . .. .
