I cleaned out my throttle body and now the engine is racing
I sprayed a bunch of throttle body cleaner into the throttle body (85 GSL-SE). After I drove a block the idle didn't go down and stayed at about 4500RPM. I turned the car off and then restarted it and hoped that if I let it warm up by driving slow it might burn off the cleaner and get back to normal. Now the idle is reving up and down. Going up to 3500 and then back to 1000 over and over quickly. Any ideas about what might be causing this? And better yet, how to fix it.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Is everything put back together right? Maybe some air leaks. I've never seen any point any using that stuff before. The throttle body shouldn't be dirty enough to use it in the first place.
Check that you didn't jam your fast idle cam or something. Or mess up your AFM.

aint a rotor aint a motor
unless its a leak....
some but not all throttle bodies have clear coatings designed to stop carbon buildup...and should only be wiped clean..
if you clean this type with throttle body cleaner sprays it increases the tolerance between the throttle butterfly and the throtttle body is increased and therefore allows more air in hence higher idle.....
I agree with Ncross probly shouldnt be used...
SUBARU make an upper cylinder cleaner thats safe for throttles but yeh...
spewin dont think can be fixed if thats what it is....im hopin its a leak somewhere

Your supposed to take the TB off the car to clean it anyway because whatever gunk sprays off the TB falls into the engine therefor deleting the purpose of cleaning it in the first place. There really isn't any sort of coating. That isn't the problem. I ported the TB on my 86 GXL and removed the primary butterflies with no problems like this. Take off your intake elbow and inspect the butterflies to make sure they're not sticking.
Did you spray it in through the air flow meter? AFM. Or directly into the TB? Was the car running or off when you sprayed it?
If the problem is due to a build up of cleaner inside the engine it should evaporate or burn off within 30 minutes or so.
