i broke a wire and im not sure what its purpose is

This picture is not from my car, for some reason my camer awont let me upload any new pictures.

anyways i was running new battery cable last night when my arm snagged this wire, ii cant get the bare wire back into the plastic connector,

the wire itself comes out of this conatiner

what doe sthe wire do and what sthe best way to replace it

Looks like the wire to the brake master cylinder float.It makes the "brake" idiot light come on when the brake fluid is low in the resevoir..........this on a 1st gen or a 2nd gen?.....just noticing your 2nd gen coils and strut tops....
